The Master of Science Graduate Program in Environmental and Biological Sciences is designed to broaden the student's perspective and provide skills and knowledge for understanding and solving problems in the environmental and biological sciences. The program teaches students the direct and indirect economic, social, and political contributions of the environmental and biological sciences. The program underscores the interdisciplinary and cooperative nature of environmental and biological issues. This program teaches students how to manage conflicts and emphasizes the importance of effectively communicating with the private and public sectors, regulatory agencies, interest groups, and communities. The Program objectives are listed below:

• To demonstrate the pivotal role of the environmental and biological sciences in understanding and addressing environmental, ecological, medical, agricultural and policy-related issues.

As a graduate of TROY’s surveying and geomatics sciences program, you’ll have opportunities to work as a surveyor with some of the most modern and precise satellite navigation systems and measurement devices. You’ll also gain a knowledge and understanding of legal issues ranging from boundary location to land development and environmental regulation.

TROY surveying and geomatics sciences graduates play key roles in the design and construction of the nation’s buildings, roads, bridges, tunnels, water-supply systems and utilities. The Troy University School of Accountancy is committed to providing students the accounting education required to enter the accounting profession and to pursue a successful professional career. The Troy University School of Accountancy offers an undergraduate accounting curriculum that provides the foundation for entering the accounting profession in the public, private, or governmental area. An undergraduate degree in accounting will also give you a strong foundation in business-related topics such as marketing, finance, and management. Earning your degree in Accounting gives you flexibility in choosing employment or furthering your education. If you choose immediate employment, you will have the skills to obtain an entry-level position in a public, private, or governmental entity. If you choose to further your education, you will have the coursework necessary to enter graduate programs in accounting such as the Master of Accountancy. As a TROY student, you will have an opportunity to seek a paid internship at one of the many local, regional and national firms or private company businesses and governmental agencies that recruit students from Troy University. The internships generally begin in January and last approximately three months. Importantly, the internship program is part of the accounting curriculum, so participation in the internship program does not delay graduation.

Our annual Accountancy Day and Meet-the-Firms events provide networking opportunities with Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firms as well as governmental agencies and private company industry representatives. If a career in physical therapy, occupational therapy, clinical exercise testing and prescription, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, health-fitness/wellness, strength and conditioning or nutrition is in your future, a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science is a perfect fit. This competitive program includes concentrations in pre-health professions, health and wellness and nutrition, and incorporates coursework from five academic departments spread across two colleges.

With an emphasis on preparation for entry into graduate health profession schools in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant, you will be prepared to successfully enter into graduate health profession schools nationwide. Upon completion of the program, you will also be prepared to sit for certification examinations offered through the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association and other organizations in the related fields of health and fitness, clinical exercise testing and strength and conditioning. Within this program, you’ll develop sound judgment, a sense of mission and ethics, problem-solving skills, the flexibility and adaptability to tackle a variety of issues and challenges, management abilities, an understanding of politics and government and a motivation to serve.

Students in this program will:

• Demonstrate a sound foundational knowledge and understanding of the principles of biology, chemistry and nutrition and an advanced understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
• Demonstrate basic laboratory skills pertaining to assessments, laboratory methods, sound experimental and analytical practices, data acquisition and reporting in the exercise sciences with emphasis on physiology and biomechanics.
• Participate in the research process including literature reviews, data collection and data analysis related to the importance and influence of physical activity, nutrition and exercise on health.
• Understand and apply the principles of exercise testing and prescription to diverse populations at various developmental stages and under a range of health conditions.
• Demonstrate requisite skills and abilities for meaningful employment in exercise science-related areas or pursue graduate studies in an exercise science-related area.

The interdisciplinary studies program lets you build your degree program based on your individual career goals and skill set. Within this program, you’ll complete your general studies courses and select three academic minors that will hone your skills across a broad spectrum of topics and specializations. This course load will be rounded off with any unrestricted electives you choose to complete the minimum 120 hours course requirement. Study with and learn from expert faculty from throughout the University in the most in-demand programs.

A bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology provides the academic and field experience to prepare students for such rewarding careers in marine science as conducting research at universities and marine laboratories and working for industry or state and federal environmental agencies. The program of study includes two summers at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab taking courses such as Vertebrate Zoology, Oceanography, Marine Ecology and Marine Botany, among other choices. During the freshman and sophomore years, students complete their foundation courses, which prepare them for advanced study. Students complete their upper-level biology and physics classes during their junior and senior years at the Troy Campus.

Why are some countries rich and others poor? Why is Social Security short on funding? Why do men and women earn different incomes? Economics addresses these questions.

Many great internship opportunities exist within the field of economics. The Division of Economics and Finance works with several organizations such as the American Institute for Economic Research, the American Enterprise Institute, the Cato Institute, the Institute for Humane Studies, the Institute for Justice and the Tax Foundation to offer great internship opportunities to students pursuing degrees in economics.

The Division of Economics and Finance is also home to the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy. The Johnson Center provides a dynamic and rigorous education program focused on the imperatives of free markets and individual liberty as well as relevant policy research on current and local issues. Students interested in the free enterprise system will enjoy the programs offered by the Johnson Center.

Students with a background in economics will find employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors. Entry level positions in the private sector include marketing research, management consulting, banking, investing and insurance. Government positions include economic forecasting, public policy/legislation analysis and economic impact studies.

Students may also choose to pursue a graduate education. An undergraduate degree in economics is an excellent foundation for graduate study in economics, business, law or public policy.
