Economic issues are everywhere. The study of economics explores the choices individuals make when faced with scarcity. The study of economics can be applied to any facet of life. Why are some countries rich and others poor? Why is Social Security short on funding? Why do men and women earn different incomes? Economics addresses these questions.

Many great internship opportunities exist within the field of economics. The Division of Economics and Finance works with several organizations such as the American Institute for Economic Research, the American Enterprise Institute, the Cato Institute, the Institute for Humane Studies, the Institute for Justice and the Tax Foundation to offer great internship opportunities to students pursuing degrees in economics.

The Division of Economics and Finance is also home to the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy. The Johnson Center provides a dynamic and rigorous education program focused on the imperatives of free markets and individual liberty as well as relevant policy research on current and local issues. Students interested in the free enterprise system will enjoy the programs offered by the Johnson Center.

Students with a background in economics will find employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors. Entry level positions in the private sector include marketing research, management consulting, banking, investing and insurance. Government positions include economic forecasting, public policy/legislation analysis and economic impact studies.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is the standard, comprehensive and professional degree for those who wish to enter the market as studio professionals or enter into a graduate studio program.

Students are given four options to emphasize in this highly rigorous program of study: 2D, 3D, Photography and Digital Studio. The BFA program requires admission through an interview and portfolio review process as the expectations for this academic and career path is considered highly exceptional in studio practice.

Studio art encompasses visual art such as photographs, paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures and ceramics. Within the bachelor of studio arts program at TROY, you will be introduced to desktop graphic applications, emerging technological advancements in art and design and principles of two-, three- and four-dimensional space and drawing. You will also examine the development of art from pre-history to the Gothic period focusing on the various social and cultural factors that determine the uses and appearance of art at different times.

The mission of the Master of Accountancy program is to prepare students for careers with increasing professional and managerial responsibility in public accounting, government, and industry, as well as prepare students for admission to accounting Ph.D. programs. To achieve this, the program will focus on the development of specialized functional accounting knowledge; effective research and communication skills; using technology appropriate for the accounting profession; objectivity, integrity, and ethical behavior; and effective critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.

To become licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Alabama and most other jurisdictions, students must complete additional educational requirements beyond the bachelor’s degree. Students can satisfy these requirements through our Master of Accountancy program.

TROY’s political science program is split into two concentrations — American politics and public administration and international politics — that will provide you with critical thinking skills necessary to thrive in the political, commercial, educational and government worlds. A bachelor’s degree in Economics with a concentration in financial economics is designed for students with an interest in banking. Students will receive a strong educational foundation in economics with a particular emphasis in modern finance. Topics such as financial statement analysis, risk and return and time value of money will complement the core theories of economics. Financial economics students will be well prepared for applications such as asset valuation, capital budgeting, long-term and short-term financing and investment decisions.

Students with a background in financial economics will find employment opportunities within both the private and public sectors. Entry-level positions in the private sector include corporate finance, brokerage firms, financial consulting firms and financial institutions such as banks, insurance companies and mutual funds. Graduates may also find employment within government regulatory agencies such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Federal Reserve System and state banking department.
