The anthropology major is a part of the Troy University Social Science Department. The program offers a wide variety of courses in cultural anthropology and archaeology. Through the Troy Archaeological Research Center (TUARC), students have the opportunity to participate in field and laboratory research and are often offered opportunities for part-time employment while attending school.

The anthropology major offers students a broad background in the field of anthropology, which includes physical, linguistics, cultural and archaeology anthropology. Our instructors bring field experience from the Near East, Australia and the southeastern United States to the program. The program will prepare students to pursue careers in anthropology or to continue their education in anthropology at the graduate level.

Environmental Science is the field of study that examines questions addressing global warming and biodiversity that guides policy makers into decisions that ensure a sustainable future. The undergraduate environmental science program at Troy University provides students with an understanding of critical environmental issues and prepares them for careers in the environmental field. Troy University's environmental science program faculty find a balance between teaching and research. Program faculty bring real-world experience to the classroom through their research, advisory, and consultation activities.

Your classes will immerse you in the field of science starting with cell structure and going all the way to the ever-complex human anatomy. As you progress within your program, you’ll learn about ecology, plant forms and functions, insects, birds and freshwater ecosystems.

Through your journey toward your degree, you will study how the Earth’s abiotic and biotic systems work with an emphasis on how human activity influences these systems and the methods of control for air, water, land and noise pollution. The rich array of professional quality theatre, musical theatre, and dance productions each year give students a chance to immediately apply what is learned in the classroom, and new works and outreach initiatives allow students to experiment with creating and producing their own work.

TROY’s American/Latin American history degree gives you the opportunity to study under the instruction of qualified faculty members who are dedicated to help you develop the skills of critical thinking and rigorous research. As you work your way toward earning your degree, you will be exposed to a wide range of Western civilization and U.S. history. You can choose from an array of courses that will take you on a journey through the Old and New South, Jacksonian Era and Colonial America. If war-time America interests you, there are courses on the American Revolution, World War II, Civil, Vietnam and Cold Wars.  

With your focus on Latin America, your courses will include the history of colonial to modern Latin America. Classes in both areas will introduce you to the origins, development and character of the major centers of civilizations and their relationships to one another. Through your courses, you will dive deep into classes that focus on topics such as the study of alcohol and drug use, politics, infectious diseases, gender, religion and more. As a graduate of TROY’s surveying and geomatics sciences program, you’ll have opportunities to work as a surveyor with some of the most modern and precise satellite navigation systems and measurement devices. You’ll also gain a knowledge and understanding of legal issues ranging from boundary location to land development and environmental regulation.

TROY surveying and geomatics sciences graduates play key roles in the design and construction of the nation’s buildings, roads, bridges, tunnels, water-supply systems and utilities. Depending on your area of expertise, you may find yourself designing and building computer systems for purposes such as land management, resource management, utility organization, traffic control and urban planning. Working as a surveyor, you can also help less developed countries change their land ownership systems to promote economic growth and democracy. With an emphasis on preparation for entry into graduate health profession schools in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant, you will be prepared to successfully enter into graduate health profession schools nationwide. Upon completion of the program, you will also be prepared to sit for certification examinations offered through the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association and other organizations in the related fields of health and fitness, clinical exercise testing and strength and conditioning. Students in this program will:

• Demonstrate a sound foundational knowledge and understanding of the principles of biology, chemistry and nutrition and an advanced understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
• Demonstrate basic laboratory skills pertaining to assessments, laboratory methods, sound experimental and analytical practices, data acquisition and reporting in the exercise sciences with emphasis on physiology and biomechanics.
• Participate in the research process including literature reviews, data collection and data analysis related to the importance and influence of physical activity, nutrition and exercise on health.
• Understand and apply the principles of exercise testing and prescription to diverse populations at various developmental stages and under a range of health conditions.
• Demonstrate requisite skills and abilities for meaningful employment in exercise science-related areas or pursue graduate studies in an exercise science-related area.
