 The mission of the Troy University Student Affairs Counseling program is to prepare Student Affairs Counselors to provide competent professional service in all areas of student services counseling at the post-secondary level. It takes an insightful awareness to see all of the many issues and pressures that impact a students success and provide guidance and support to help them reach their highest potential as students and professionals in their chosen areas.

The educational experience offered by the program facilitates the development of students’ analytical and critical thinking capabilities as well as enhances oral and written communication skills. The program is designed to create an integrated academic learning environment for analyzing and resolving challenges in the sport industry. As students move through the program, they learn through a variety of mediums including lectures, seminars and practical experience through event and program execution and design. Students also have the option to complete an internship for career preparation.

Troy University’s social science major will prepare you to understand and contribute to society in a meaningful way by applying critical and creative thinking, technology and an interdisciplinary perspective to solving practical problems.

As a student of social science, you will learn to analyze societal issues, identify improvements, and recommend solutions using statistics and data analysis. You’ll learn to communicate effectively and to evaluate individual and community needs. As you develop the ability to analyze complex social problems, you will become able to work toward realistic solutions using awareness, acceptance and appreciation of diversity, social factors and global multicultural perspectives.

TROY’s American/Latin American history degree gives you the opportunity to study under the instruction of qualified faculty members who are dedicated to help you develop the skills of critical thinking and rigorous research. As you work your way toward earning your degree, you will be exposed to a wide range of Western civilization and U.S. history. You can choose from an array of courses that will take you on a journey through the Old and New South, Jacksonian Era and Colonial America. With your focus on Latin America, your courses will include the history of colonial to modern Latin America. Classes in both areas will introduce you to the origins, development and character of the major centers of civilizations and their relationships to one another. Through your courses, you will dive deep into classes that focus on topics such as the study of alcohol and drug use, politics, infectious diseases, gender, religion and more. And, you’ll also experience dynamic teaching models that will help you experience history through gaming, movies and music.

This program will prepare you to work with individuals with disabilities in both public and private organizations. Led by experienced and knowledgeable faculty members within TROY’s Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation and Interpreter Training, your courses will equip you with the skills and understanding necessary for your chosen rehabilitation-related career. You’ll also grow as an advocate as you learn about community inclusion and integration.

In today’s society, the number of people with disabilities continues to grow. Because of this, there is a growing demand for rehabilitation professionals and other workers who provide services to people with disabilities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook, physical therapists are among the fastest growing occupations in the nation with more than a 22 percent growth rate projected from 2018-2028.

That growth isn’t only felt in the physical therapy field—other rehabilitation-related occupations are expected to grow rapidly, as well. The BLS projects there will be a 22 percent growth rate among professions such as mental health counseling, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and substance abuse counseling.

 The computer science program provides students with a curriculum in the key domains of computer science at undergraduate and graduate levels. These programs provide students with computer science knowledge and skills while preparing them for careers in computer technology and for advanced study in graduate courses. Students in this program have the opportunity to work on individual and team projects that include game design, cell phone apps, web applications, visualizations and more. Students in the computer science undergraduate and graduate programs benefit from small classes and an active Computer Science Club, a student organization that hosts weekly seminars, study sessions and many other activities.

TROY’s undergraduate curriculum is centered in the latest technological advances taught by a caring and highly qualified faculty. A bachelor’s degree in Economics with a concentration in financial economics is designed for students with an interest in banking. Students will receive a strong educational foundation in economics with a particular emphasis in modern finance. Topics such as financial statement analysis, risk and return and time value of money will complement the core theories of economics. Financial economics students will be well prepared for applications such as asset valuation, capital budgeting, long-term and short-term financing and investment decisions.

The Division of Economics and Finance is also home to the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy. The Johnson Center provides a dynamic and rigorous education program focused on the imperatives of free market and individual liberty as well as relevant policy research on current and local issues. Students with an interest in the free enterprise system will benefit from engagement with the Johnson Center and Troy University’s financial economics program.

Students with a background in financial economics will find employment opportunities within both the private and public sectors. Entry-level positions in the private sector include corporate finance, brokerage firms, financial consulting firms and financial institutions such as banks, insurance companies and mutual funds. Graduates may also find employment within government regulatory agencies such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Federal Reserve System and state banking department.

Students may also choose to pursue a graduate education. An undergraduate degree in economics with a concentration in financial economics is an excellent foundation for graduate study in business, finance, law, public policy or economics.
