The secondary history education program produces middle and high school teachers who are dedicated to transforming the lives of future generations through teaching social studies. Our graduates are committed to helping adolescents become informed, engaged and caring citizens, knowing that these same students will be the history makers of tomorrow. Latin American and Iberian Studies focuses on the history, geography, politics, literature, arts and cultures of Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. Our courses cover a wide range of topics including indigenous cultures, colonialism, nationalism, liberalism and globalization as well as problems of gender, race and economic inequality. Latin American and Iberian Studies prepares students with the practical and theoretical tools they need to study and work in the globalized arena of the 21st century. Students majoring or minoring in Latin American and Iberian Studies are required to acquire competency in either Spanish or Portuguese, going beyond the minimum requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences.

As an operations management (OM) major, you’ll learn about the processes that companies use to transform resources into goods and services.

As an OM professional, you’ll help companies make important decisions about product creation, development, production and distribution while focusing on efficiency and balancing supply and demand. This requires a mastery of technology, data analysis and critical decision-making.

If you enjoy solving problems using the latest technology, utilizing math to improve real-world situations, analyzing data and explaining it to others or learning valuable new decision-making skills, then the OM major is for you.

Have you ever considered how governments solve complex problems in areas like immigration, healthcare or environmental protection? In political science education you will learn about national and international politics and policymakers and how to teach political science content at the secondary level. You will learn valuable skills in critical thought, oral and written communication and quantitative reasoning while working toward teaching certification. All majors are required to complete 30 credits of political science coursework including three core courses: Introduction to American Politics, Introduction to Global Politics and Research Methods for Political Science. Beyond the core courses, you will take upper-level courses across the political science catalog, related coursework in economics, history, geography and psychology and professional courses in education. You will also have a student teaching experience.

As computer systems and the Internet of Things become an essential part of everyday lives, protecting their security and privacy is a top priority. In our interconnected world, cyberattacks can affect businesses and communities all over the world, and cybersecurity engineers are the ones defending our rapidly changing digital frontier. Cybersecurity engineers design hardened systems, build secure applications and networks, analyze data breaches and identify vulnerabilities in cyberspace, confronting emerging threats and driving technological innovation. UD Cybersecurity Engineering graduates are in high demand as the cybersecurity industry rapidly grows every year. Most graduates pursue exciting careers in the private sector, including technology companies, banking institutions, and telecommunication providers, as well as government agencies, research centers, and the defense industry. Alternatively, cybersecurity engineering graduates choose to pursue graduate education, including master’s or Ph.D. degrees, as well as attend business, medical or law schools. Students who earn advanced degrees in engineering usually advance into leadership positions within their discipline, or pursue a career in advanced research in industry or academia.

Communication offers a strong theory- and research-based program coupled with skills training in oral communication, video production, broadcast journalism and public relations. Students also study intercultural communication, principles in advertising, media and children, politics and entertainment, advertising, persuasion, strategic communication, social media management, relationship skills and conflict management. This well-rounded curriculum prepares our graduates for a successful and dynamic career.

The English major offers a practical, multidisciplinary, and flexible array of courses that prepare students for a variety of career paths, including business, law, government, science, the arts, healthcare, education, and multi-media production. Our students learn to write clearly, to speak persuasively, and to read with care and precision, all qualities required for the leadership roles of many professions.

Sharing the beauty and science of our natural landscapes and fascinating details about the diverse cultures around the globe, you can awaken children’s wonder and excitement for the world around them, helping them become engaged global citizens who care about our Earth. During your studies at UD, you will examine the physical properties of the natural environment (water, climate, landforms and vegetation) and the role that human beliefs, activities and decision-making has in shaping the world around us. You will also gain training in teaching and how to best reach and serve students in middle or high school.
