The international business studies (IBS) major is designed to prepare you to conduct business successfully around the world.

By placing equal emphasis on business and international studies, including advanced language training and a semester abroad, the IBS program will teach you to apply business principles to a region of the world in that region’s native language.

This specialized international training will give you excellent preparation for a wide variety of careers as markets continue to become more globalized.

Our graduates choose a variety of career paths: some become teachers, translators or interpreters while others are employed in publishing, broadcasting, government, international travel, financial services or other areas of international business. Opportunities in international marketing, advertising and other communication industries provide further outlets for language skills that our students couple with other expertise acquired in joint or double majors. Sociology is the study of social organizations, social change and the social causes and consequences of human behavior in the modern world. The Sociology Education degree offers a liberal arts curriculum that integrates teaching theory and methods with courses focusing on contemporary social issues and problems. Students working toward teaching certification in the social sciences will be able to augment their training in pedagogy with sociological content emphasizing inequality, social justice, law and society, deviance and criminology, social correlates of health and wellbeing and disasters and the environment.

Be part of solving one of humanity’s most critical grand challenges — the global demand for food and fiber.  With the population expected to grow by 2.3 billion by 2050, feeding the world will require raising overall food production by 70 percent.  You will become knowledgeable in animal nutrition, health, behavior, reproduction, physiology, genetics and animal management. You will play an important role in education and the conservation of non-domesticated animals housed in zoos, aquariums and sanctuaries. You will also contribute to a greater understanding of the complex relationships between domestic animals (livestock and pets), wild animals, humans and our shared environment.

Our faculty work hard to help you understand what it takes to be an effective manager. You learn how to be successful when negotiating and resolving conflict with others. In addition, the major gives you flexibility because you can focus on the area of management that’s most relevant to your career goals. You can choose between Business Leadership and Human Resources.

• The Business Leadership track includes courses that focus on leading change in businesses and understanding different approaches to leadership and team dynamics.
• The Human Resources (HR) track includes courses that provide a broad understanding of the functions of HR (such as recruitment, selection and training) as well as how to prepare HR management for the future of business.

The Bachelor of Music in Music History and Literature provides a rigorous core of courses in the history and literature of Western music and offers opportunities for deeper study in related fields such as music theory, literature, anthropology, philosophy, history and foreign languages. The degree culminates with an extended senior thesis under the mentorship of a member of the music history faculty. This degree is aimed primarily at students preparing to attend graduate school in musicology, although it might be of interest to students who are planning a career in a non-teaching, non-performing area of music such as ensemble management and representation, information sciences or educational media.

Opportunities are available for supported summer research and independent study. Also available to our students is the opportunity for exploration of the school’s extensive collection of period instruments in our Early Music Ensembles, which gives students a chance to perform music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance and Baroque Eras.

Think fashion is only about great designs? Think again. Producing great designers is only part of the apparel design program at the University of Delaware. In addition to becoming proficient in conceptualization, drawing and rendering, flat pattern development, draping and product development, students explore and address the challenges in the apparel industry.

Fashion design students develop an understanding of the complexities of the industry and responses necessary to build a more sustainable model. Computer-aided design, portfolio development, textiles, and historical costume courses enable our students to have a holistic understanding of the present and future needs of the fashion design industry.

Chemistry involves the study of solids, liquids and gases; and the transformations they undergo in combination with each other. Chemists engage in observation, analysis, and experimentation, breaking natural substances down into their components, replicating in the laboratory chemical processes that occur in the physical world and creating substances to fulfill specific needs. Chemical discoveries play an important role in helping us understand the world around us. Biochemistry, the study of chemical compounds and processes that occur in living organisms, has emerged as a field with growing impact on our ability to diagnose and treat diseases in animals, plants and humans.
