Environmental and Resource Economics applies economic principles to the many and varied environmental and natural resource challenges facing our society today and in the future. In this major, you will study how human decisions impact our environment and natural resources, including issues involving land use, water supply, water quality, air quality, agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. Do you have an interest in environmental and resource management, economic analysis, or weighing the costs and benefits of alternative environmental policies? We will provide you with a solid foundation in resource economics, business and the environment, topped with a range of data and analytical specialties.

The management major combines a strong liberal arts foundation with a hands-on professional education that prepares you to think critically, creatively and collaboratively when solutions are needed for challenging problems in business.

Our faculty work hard to help you understand what it takes to be an effective manager. You learn how to be successful when negotiating and resolving conflict with others. In addition, the major gives you flexibility because you can focus on the area of management that’s most relevant to your career goals. You can choose between Business Leadership and Human Resources.

• The Business Leadership track includes courses that focus on leading change in businesses and understanding different approaches to leadership and team dynamics.
• The Human Resources (HR) track includes courses that provide a broad understanding of the functions of HR (such as recruitment, selection and training) as well as how to prepare HR management for the future of business.

Health Behavior Science is the study of how individual (e.g., race, age, disability, knowledge), social (e.g., peer-groups), and environmental (e.g., access to parks, worksite wellness programs) factors shape our health and well-being across the lifespan. We work to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce the burden of disease through the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs to change specific health behaviors for individuals and/or target populations. Students are also required to complete a minor in an approved area of expertise or complete the Health and Disability concentration to provide additional focused skills that enhance their job competitiveness. Students pursuing this major are well prepared for careers in health promotion and education, community health, worksite wellness, health coaching, personal training, and advanced graduate programs including health promotion/public health, physical/occupational therapy, physician assistant, and accelerated nursing programs. The program culminates with an internship experience that enhances the school to work transition.

There is a global need for professionals trained to provide critical social services to children, adults and families from diverse backgrounds—counseling, educating, coordinating and advocating for people.

Human Services (HS) majors develop the skills necessary to make a difference in the lives of children, adolescents, adults and families. Choosing from one of four concentrations, students can prepare to work in a variety of settings including non-profit organizations, schools, hospitals, community programs, legal aid and advocacy organizations, where they can have a positive impact in fields such as youth development, disabilities, race relations, juvenile justice, substance abuse prevention and domestic violence prevention.

The Nutrition and Medical Sciences major provides students with a strong science foundation focused in biology, physiology, and chemistry, and is particularly designed for those expecting to pursue an advanced degree in graduate school, medical school, dental school, or other health-related professions (e.g. physician assistant, pharmacy, physical therapy). The core sciences paired with nutrition courses build knowledge about the relationships between biological and chemical processes, nutrition, metabolism and health.

From heart-rate monitors and refrigerators to laptops and mobile phones, computerized gadgets are everywhere. More and more of these gadgets are communicating and coordinating through networks to massive cloud computing centers that are distributed around the world.

Not only do computer engineers design computers and digital equipment, but they also design software that runs on the computers and develop algorithms that are implemented by the software.

Today’s computer engineers brought us the internet in our connected world. How will you change the future as a computer engineer?

UD electrical and computer engineering graduates pursue exciting, rewarding, and successful careers. On average, 70–80% of graduates with a Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree choose employment in private industry, government laboratories and agencies, and non-profit research centers. Approximately 15–20% of computer engineering graduates choose to continue their education toward a master’s or Ph.D. degree, and some graduates will opt to attend medical, law, or business school. Students who earn advanced degrees in engineering usually pursue a career in advanced research in industry or academia.

A multilingual brain is more agile and better able to solve problems and conflicts. Language learners demonstrate superior cognitive performance throughout their lives.

Over half of the world’s population is bilingual or multilingual, while only one in five U.S. citizens speaks a language other than English. Knowledge of other languages and cultures gives our graduates a competitive advantage in any career, and is highly valued in international business and professional communities. Our graduates choose a variety of career paths in teaching, entertainment and media, government, travel, financial services or international business. Some students enter careers with international or non-governmental organizations such as the International Red Cross or the World Health Organization, while others go on to advanced degrees in preparation for work in international law, diplomacy and college teaching.

History majors at the University of Delaware explore the past while acquiring skills to shape the future. The major prepares graduates for successful careers in fields from consulting to government, education to the arts and from museums to management. Alums report that our program taught them to analyze complexity and prepared them to communicate their conclusions clearly and convincingly. Effective analysis of documents, objects and ideas from the past requires “historical empathy” — reading with an open mind in ways that foster deep understanding of the perspectives and motivations of others. This kind of open-mindedness prepares our students for more than career success. Students also learn to draw on the wisdom of the past to make meaningful lives for themselves as informed citizens and stewards of our evolving future.

Sustainable Food Systems will train you to approach key food system challenges critically and innovatively — from agriculture and production, processing, retail consumption and waste. Sustainable food businesses, nonprofits and policymakers need more thinkers, strategists, planners and activists to help lead the population in utilizing, yet preserving our precious natural resources.

THE POWER OF GEOSPATIAL DATA

To contribute to advances in sustainability and fostering a more equitable society in the future, you will need to learn how to analyze and harness geosptatial data, which is already being generated in every aspect of our society. In this major you will study computer science, electrical engineering, geography and mathematics in a core curriculum that builds strong skills in handling large geospatial and environmental data sets. Having built those foundational skills, you will then develop the deep knowledge and context you will need to succeed in one of five topical concentrations, listed below in Areas of Study. In the capstone course, you will apply data analytics to pressing environmental topics, such as food security, water shortages, climate change and environmental health.
