Plus, study abroad for the opportunity to take courses in politics, art, economics, fashion, photography, tourism and gastronomy. Your study will prepare you to compete and succeed in a wide variety of professions while using the language of over 200 million people on five continents.

Materials engineers play a vital role in solving today’s most challenging energy and environmental problems, and the outlook for materials science engineers is incredibly promising. Engineering is one of the highest-paying industries for college graduates, and the job sector of materials science engineers is expected to see substantial growth in the coming decades. Developments in nanotechnology and in the use of biomedical materials, high-performance textiles, composites and sustainable materials are creating job opportunities.

Materials Science and Engineering uses the principles of physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering to develop better, safer and more sustainable materials. Everything we see and use is made from materials derived from the earth, and advanced materials are essential to nearly every modern technology. Materials engineers study the structures and properties of all types of materials – metals, polymers, ceramics, semiconductors and composites – and develop new ways to make them using nanotechnology and advanced manufacturing techniques.

THE POWER OF GEOSPATIAL DATA

To contribute to advances in sustainability and fostering a more equitable society in the future, you will need to learn how to analyze and harness geosptatial data, which is already being generated in every aspect of our society. In this major you will study computer science, electrical engineering, geography and mathematics in a core curriculum that builds strong skills in handling large geospatial and environmental data sets. Having built those foundational skills, you will then develop the deep knowledge and context you will need to succeed in one of five topical concentrations, listed below in Areas of Study. In the capstone course, you will apply data analytics to pressing environmental topics, such as food security, water shortages, climate change and environmental health.

For almost a century, the University of Delaware’s Physics and Astronomy program has provided a world class undergraduate physics education that meets the goals of STEM education. Our graduates join a variety of physical science and engineering graduate programs, enter medical school, find employment in industry and teach in high schools all over the country.

The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts in Music with Music Management Concentration provides broad coverage of music combined with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. This program provides opportunities designed to prepare students for administrative careers within the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors of the music industry. A 4+1 program option is offered through the Bachelor of Arts in Music Management, which combines the liberal arts music major with a master’s degree in Business Administration completed in the fifth year of study.?

From its inception just a half century ago, computing has become the defining technology of our age. Computers are integral to modern culture and are the primary engine behind much of the world’s economic growth. Moreover, the field continues to evolve at an astonishing pace, making computer science a vibrant discipline.

UD’s computer science curriculum emphasizes software development and computer theory with the goal that students learn how computers are used to solve real-life problems. Students develop excellent programming skills as they build a solid foundation in the theory and practice of computer science and software engineering. The research of the faculty guides upper-level course offerings, and there are ample opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research projects. Students are encouraged to explore how other subject areas impact and are impacted by computer science through a concentration in a related discipline.

We are committed to providing students with access to the most advanced computer technology available and maintaining research laboratories for areas requiring extensive experimental studies. Students also have access to our high-performance clusters for coursework and research in parallel computing, networking, artificial intelligence, and multimedia.

The Bachelor of Music in Composition emphasizes instruction in musical composition, improvisation and multimedia creative activities. Many students in this major continue on to graduate studies in composition at well-known institutions with the goal of working in higher education or to compose vocationally.

The Composition Studio is a vibrant and highly active group within the University of Delaware’s School of Music. Composition students remain active as performers and are able to participate in all of the school’s ensembles and productions. Diversity in compositional style and philosophy is encouraged, as is interdisciplinary collaboration and experimentation. Close association with the theory and musicology areas, in addition to the performance area, provides for a well-rounded academic education where music composition students can enhance and support their creative work with specialized research and performance.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music provides students an opportunity to synthesize intensive study of music with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. The program includes training in music theory, music history/literature, performance ensembles and applied music. Rigorous coursework in music is balanced by significant opportunities for training, research and development in other academic areas. This program is particularly well suited to students with broad ranging artistic and academic interests, and who wish to utilize their music education to advance their careers in unique directions.

Be part of solving one of humanity’s most critical grand challenges — the global demand for food and fiber. Feeding the population, which is expected to grow by 2.3 billion by 2050, will require raising overall food production by 70 percent. Veterinarians are needed to respond to diseases that can be transferred to humans because it is estimated that 75 percent of new emerging diseases are zoonotic. You will help care for the 100 million companion animals that are members of our families and help solve the problems related to the 10 million cats and dogs that enter shelters each year. Graduates of the pre-veterinary medicine and animal biosciences major recognize that healthy, productive livestock and pets lead to healthy people.

The Global Studies major enables students to succeed in an increasingly globalized society by exposing them to the political and cultural foundations of global issues. Our majors develop an analytical approach to critical issues that appear across national boundaries and cultural regions — examining them from a variety of disciplines. This integrated interdisciplinary program of study prepares majors for a broad range of career paths including government and international business or in international health, humanitarian, environmental, development and other types of non-governmental agencies.
