Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

UD electrical and computer engineering graduates pursue exciting, rewarding, and successful careers. On average, 70–80% of graduates with a Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree choose employment in private industry, government laboratories and agencies, and non-profit research centers. Approximately 15–20% of computer engineering graduates choose to continue their education toward a master’s or Ph.D. degree, and some graduates will opt to attend medical, law, or business school. Students who earn advanced degrees in engineering usually pursue a career in advanced research in industry or academia.

Sociology is the study of social organizations, social change and the social causes and consequences of human behavior in the modern world. The sociology major offers a liberal arts curriculum that integrates theory and methods with courses focusing on contemporary social issues and problems. Students completing a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory undergo a rigorous program that prepares them to continue on to graduate study in the field. In addition to working closely with the theory faculty, students receive mentoring and are encouraged to attend and present at regional and national conferences. Students also write an extended research paper on a related topic chosen in consultation with their adviser, in addition to completing studies in cognate fields such as foreign languages, music history and research methods.

The UD Ancient Greek and Roman Studies Program provides students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture and civilization of Ancient Greece and Rome. As a program of study, Ancient Greek and Roman Studies concerns itself with all aspects of ancient Greek and Roman culture and its influence through the Middle Ages and Renaissance up to the present day. The program focuses not just on Greek and Roman language and literature but also on material culture (art history and archaeology); on economic, political, social and intellectual history; and on philosophy, religion and myth. Unlike most other areas of study, Ancient Greek and Roman Studies is truly interdisciplinary and—as such—provides a unique experience for students with many different interests and intended career paths.
