Chemists engage in observation, analysis, and experimentation, breaking natural substances down into their components, replicating in the laboratory chemical processes that occur in the physical world and creating substances to fulfill specific needs. Chemical discoveries play an important role in helping us understand the world around us. Biochemistry, the study of chemical compounds and processes that occur in living organisms, has emerged as a field with growing impact on our ability to diagnose and treat diseases in animals, plants and humans.

Think fashion is only about looking good? Think again. The fashion industry is fast-paced, dynamic and global. Fashion professionals need to be prepared in a variety of skills and areas of study in order to be successful in a creative industry that is always pushing for change.

As a student in this program, you will gain competencies in various aspects of the industry including merchandise and assortment planning, product development, consumer behavior, sourcing, distribution channels, communication and sustainability. Industry complexities offer fertile ground for impactful research, critical thinking applications within the classroom and collaborations with corporate partners. Understanding the global platform on which the apparel industry is based is central to our program content.

The international business studies (IBS) major is designed to prepare you to conduct business successfully around the world.

By placing equal emphasis on business and international studies, including advanced language training and a semester abroad, the IBS program will teach you to apply business principles to a region of the world in that region’s native language.

This specialized international training will give you excellent preparation for a wide variety of careers as markets continue to become more globalized.

If you enjoy living and working in different cultures, speaking different languages and interacting with people from various regions of the world, IBS is the major for you.

Medical diagnostics is a clinical-oriented science program that incorporates the basic science courses required for admission to medical school with medical-related courses that impact on the diagnosis and therapy of disease. This major prepares students who plan to pursue postgraduate study in health-related areas immediately upon graduation, including careers in medicine, dentistry, optometry, and physician assistant.

Students with the goal of attending Medical School should visit UD's Pre-Med website for advising and admission information. There are two distinct pathways by which students can gain admission to a professional school. One is open to all majors and requires a basic knowledge of science and mathematics. Students taking this option are evaluated by the Health Science Advisement and Evaluation Committee (HSAEC), which writes a University of Delaware recommendation to medical institutions of the student's choice.

Freshmen enter as medical laboratory and diagnostics interest majors. In order to enter the medical diagnostics major at the end of the sophomore year certain criteria are required: a minimum 3.00 GPA for the first four semesters, including successful completion of prerequisite courses in chemistry, biological sciences, physics and/or anatomy and physiology, and completion of at least 60 credit hours, including the prerequisite courses. Admission to the junior/senior major is determined by academic achievement.

Exercise science is a major that provides students with a strong biological and physical science-based foundation complemented by individual specialty courses in biomechanics, physiology, motor control & development, and athletic training. The major in exercise science is primarily a pre-professional program, preparing students for graduate programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, medical and dental school, or advanced graduate training in exercise science. The exercise science program of study is designed to cover all courses needed to apply to graduate physical therapy programs, as well as many courses needed for other health-related graduate programs.  Students not seeking postgraduate training can select career opportunities in health related clinical or research environments.

Do you have an interest in business but aren’t sure what area of the field to focus on? Food and fiber industries constitute approximately 16 percent of the U.S. economy with a value of over $2.5 trillion and 20 million jobs. The production of food is only a small part of this total, with most of the effort, resources and jobs involved in creating and marketing products to consumers. The Food and Agribusiness Marketing and Management major focuses on the unique aspects of these industries, including food marketing, management and leadership, and entrepreneurship. Not only will you obtain a strong background in business principles, you will graduate with the knowledge of how the agribusiness sector operates and impacts domestic and world economies. The job market is hungry for students well trained in business but who also understand the unique nature and dynamics of the food and fiber industry. In fact, agricultural economics related majors rank second in employability among all college majors

From the most recent advances in plant molecular biology to the latest methods for growing and maintaining healthy plants, students in the Plant Science major will incorporate these practices with their evolving knowledge of the plant kingdom. The major offers the flexibility to pursue the areas of plant science that best aligns students with their future goals. Exciting careers in sustainable agriculture and ecosystem sciences, agronomic and horticultural crop production systems, plant science research and biotechnology, and crop protection await you.

UNDERSTAND TODAY'S WORLD — BECOME A GLOBAL CITIZEN

The Global Studies major enables students to succeed in an increasingly globalized society by exposing them to the political and cultural foundations of global issues. Our majors develop an analytical approach to critical issues that appear across national boundaries and cultural regions — examining them from a variety of disciplines. This integrated interdisciplinary program of study prepares majors for a broad range of career paths including government and international business or in international health, humanitarian, environmental, development and other types of non-governmental agencies.

Health and Wellness with a Nutrition Focus

The Nutrition major is a good fit for those interested in working with individuals to educate them about nutrition and promote a healthy diet. In addition to a foundation in social sciences, chemistry, biology and the science of nutrition, this major allows students to combine the study of nutrition with other academic majors/minors, preparing them to promote health and wellness among individuals and communities

In Lerner’s finance program, you will learn how to balance opportunity with risk to ensure resources are allocated to their best use. CFA Institute Recognition

• The undergraduate finance degree at the University of Delaware has been recognized by the CFA Institute as a program that incorporates over 75% of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Exam Material into its curriculum, including the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Student Organizations
The Blue Hen Investment Club is the University of Delaware’s student-managed investment fund with $1.8 million assets under management. It is open to students of all majors who are willing to commit to managing a portion of the university’s endowment.

Over the years, the fund has created leaders who have found careers with institutions such as Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, UBS, PwC, EY, KPMG and McKinsey & Company.
