• The GEM major is the first globally-oriented and academically challenging program of its kind in the United States. It studies the idea of globalization from many viewpoints, thereby giving you the flexibility to design a program that best fits your personal and professional interests.

Entrepreneurship is the driving force for innovation and growth in the global economy, and UD’s educational and research programs in electrical engineering provide numerous opportunities to explore this force underlying the competitiveness, success, and prosperity of society.

Undergraduate laboratory experiences give students the chance to practice skills they learn in classes on real devices and to see firsthand the physics that they describe mathematically in classes. Because of our lab courses, upon graduation our students not only understand the technical world but also have the skills and experience to change it. Our electrical engineering students, faculty, and alumni have helped launch a multitude of entrepreneurial success stories over the years. They continue to change the world with their spirit of innovation, passion for technology, and technology transfer.

Electrical engineering students at UD benefit from a broad array of experiential learning opportunities, including robust senior design and undergraduate research programs, as well as our Vertically Integrated Projects program, which unites undergraduate education and faculty research in a team-based context. Many of our undergraduates publish papers in scholarly journals or attend conferences all over the country before receiving their degree.

As an operations management (OM) major, you’ll learn about the processes that companies use to transform resources into goods and services.

As an OM professional, you’ll help companies make important decisions about product creation, development, production and distribution while focusing on efficiency and balancing supply and demand. This requires a mastery of technology, data analysis and critical decision-making.

If you enjoy solving problems using the latest technology, utilizing math to improve real-world situations, analyzing data and explaining it to others or learning valuable new decision-making skills, then the OM major is for you.

The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music provides students an opportunity to synthesize intensive study of music with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. The program includes training in music theory, music history/literature, performance ensembles and applied music. Rigorous coursework in music is balanced by significant opportunities for training, research and development in other academic areas. This program is particularly well suited to students with broad ranging artistic and academic interests, and who wish to utilize their music education to advance their careers in unique directions.

Communication offers a strong theory- and research-based program coupled with skills training in oral communication, video production, broadcast journalism and public relations. Students also study intercultural communication, principles in advertising, media and children, politics and entertainment, advertising, persuasion, strategic communication, social media management, relationship skills and conflict management. This well-rounded curriculum prepares our graduates for a successful and dynamic career.

Become an effective economics teacher by strengthening your knowledge of both education and economics. Study how markets work. Learn what is produced, how it is produced, and how income is distributed. Explore subjects such as:

• The role and impact of international trade
• The effect of monopolies on the economy
• The problems of unemployment and inflation

Your studies will provide you with a framework for evaluating policy to determine whether they help improve the quality of people’s lives. You will be equipped to help design solutions for society’s economic problems.

You will also learn how to turn your knowledge into effective, engaging lessons for secondary students that will help them develop the skills they need to graduate as economically literate and flourishing citizens.

The B.A. in Art—one of three undergraduate art and design degrees offered at UD—provides the same foundation in art making through its Core studio courses that B.F.A. students receive along with additional upper level studio courses to further hone the student’s artistic skills. It encourages an interdisciplinary approach with many students earning a minor or second major from departments across the college and university. The B.A. provides an opportunity for students to develop highly personal portfolios that can incorporate art and design with work from other disciplines with very marketable results. The B.A. also reflects developments in Fine Art involving more environmentally and socially engaged art practices, technology or performance-based work, as well as artworks emphasizing academic research.

Chances are that if you love science, there was a teacher or mentor who inspired or encouraged that passion. And if you want to spark that excitement in others, studying earth science education is the way to start. Earth science educators are critically important to teach young people to respect and conserve the planet’s resources and to maintain and preserve a healthy, livable environment.

In the earth science education program, you will be prepared for a future as a high school science teacher. The program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and emphasizes giving you a strong background in both liberal arts and content. You will complete all your field experiences and student teaching at one of Delaware’s fastest growing school districts during your sophomore, junior, and senior years, culminating with a 15-week student teaching practicum. On completing the program requirements, you will receive the University of Delaware's endorsement for teaching certification.

Majors and minors study how different local, national and regional cultures interact within Asia and beyond. The program draws on the strengths of specialists in anthropology, art history, English, Chinese and Japanese language, foreign literature, history, music, philosophy, politics and international relations, sociology and criminal justice. Students may major or minor in the program, with an Honors option also available. Asian Studies complements a host of other majors, including Chinese and Japanese language, history, international relations, political science and international business. The program encourages students to further deepen cultural and linguistic engagement through study abroad.

Health and Wellness with a Nutrition Focus

The Nutrition major is a good fit for those interested in working with individuals to educate them about nutrition and promote a healthy diet. In addition to a foundation in social sciences, chemistry, biology and the science of nutrition, this major allows students to combine the study of nutrition with other academic majors/minors, preparing them to promote health and wellness among individuals and communities
