?The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a program in Actuarial Science leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. The major, with courses taught by faculty in the Departments of Economics, Finance, and Mathematical Sciences (among others), provides a strong background in actuarial science, including the satisfaction of all three actuarial science VEE requirements. Students graduating with this degree will be well prepared for the first two actuarial examinations, the foundation of an actuarial career.

Our students learn to write clearly, to speak persuasively, and to read with care and precision, all qualities required for the leadership roles of many professions.

The marketing major prepares you to serve a vital role as the liaison between businesses and consumers.

As a marketer, you will identify wants and needs among diverse groups of people, select target markets and develop strategies for new and existing products. You will formulate plans for pricing, distributing and promoting these products and services while utilizing knowledge of branding, advertising, social media and new product development. This work requires careful analysis, creativity and action to tailor products and services to meet consumers’ needs.

If you have a curiosity about how nature and people together shape the environment and what makes one place different from another, majoring in geography will let you examine the physical and social processes that help explain why features on the earth’s surface are located where they are and how people interact with their environment. You will examine the physical properties of the natural environment (water, climate, landforms and vegetation) and the role that human beliefs, activities and decision-making have in shaping the world around us. As you progress, you will select a concentration in a core area of geography—listed below as Areas of Study—to deepen your understanding of important environmental and social issues like climate change, vegetation, environmental degradation, agricultural systems, geopolitical decision-making, human migration and settlement. You will gain marketable skills (such as geographical information systems (GIS), fieldwork, interviewing or computer modeling) through coursework in research design, data collection and data analysis. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the use of geographic information technologies and data to answer environmental and societal questions is driving the job market for geographers at a rate that is almost twice that of all other occupations.

Information Systems is an evolving scientific area of study that bridges the gap between business and computer science.

Networks of computers extend human brainpower by creating modes of communication and record keeping that are at once more complex and more convenient than ever before. To be effective, these systems must aid and enhance our business, government and service organizations, which requires a careful understanding of the factors controlling human interactions, as well as the technical potential and limitations of computer systems.

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences offers students a Bachelor of Science major in Information Systems (INSY-BS), which combines business and information technology subjects. The major addresses student demand for courses oriented toward the design of new software systems for business and consumer needs. Students enrolled in the major must fulfill a set of major courses along with 1) a set of business courses (referred to as the business core) and 2) a set of information systems courses (referred to as the information systems core).

The business core emphasizes management and marketing issues. Students are prepared for careers in management and financial matters through courses in accounting, finance, operations management, organizational behavior, and marketing.

The information core stresses the use of computing technology in solving business problems.

Course work includes technological problem solving and project management, as well as a selection of advanced computer science courses designed to prepare students for careers in programming, business telecommunication networks, system development, database systems, and software engineering.

The sport management major is designed to prepare you for a successful career in the multi-billion dollar sport industry.

As a sport management major, you’ll take courses that are specific to the sport management discipline, as well as business courses that will help you to develop quantitative analysis skills and an understanding of essential business concepts.

As a sport management graduate, you’ll find diverse and exciting career opportunities. These include careers in professional and minor league sports, intercollegiate and high school athletics, international and national sport governing bodies, sport agencies, sport facilities, businesses that use sports to market their products and sport marketing and event management firms.

• The Lerner College sport management program will help you to go above and beyond your passion for sport by challenging you academically and providing you with practical experience outside the classroom. As part of this experience, you’ll complete a nine-credit internship during your senior year.

• As a Lerner College sport management student, you will have access to a number of volunteer opportunities with the UD Athletic Department and other sport organizations in the area. Plato coined the word 'philosopher' to refer to a 'lover of wisdom'. As a discipline, philosophy seeks to understand the world and our relation to it by examining and scrutinizing the foundational assumptions that lie behind our everyday thinking. Philosophy asks big questions: What fundamentally exists? Are there any moral truths? Is free will possible? Can machines think? What is a scientific law? Which forms of government are best? Is there a God? But perhaps more than any specific set of questions or ideas, philosophy is about the love of critical and creative thinking, intelligent discussion and cogent argument. Since these skills are vital in every field, philosophical tools and training can be useful for students of virtually any subject. Students with a special interest in legal careers have the option of selecting the department’s philosophy and law concentration. Philosophy majors tend to score highest on the GRE, MCAT and LSAT exams, and many have gone on to successful careers in a variety of fields.
