Sustainable food businesses, nonprofits and policymakers need more thinkers, strategists, planners and activists to help lead the population in utilizing, yet preserving our precious natural resources.

Humankind’s cultural inheritance is encoded in the language of art. We offer students critical insights into this inheritance and the ways that art and cultural expression have developed over time and across the continents, deepening their knowledge of the past and the ways that the past shapes the present. We sharpen students’ visual skills, essential for success in an increasingly visual world. We develop students’ writing abilities, an essential foundation for any career. We spark students’ imaginations with images and objects that have endured centuries and have been worshipped or violated, stirred revolution or gone missing, delighted or outraged. In keeping with the university’s global mission, we offer courses in American (including Native American, African American and Latin American), European, African, Asian and Islamic art and architecture. Through the study of the full range of artistic creativity, we challenge students to become citizens of the world.

Graduates of our program are highly qualified English teachers who not only have a broad and deep content knowledge but also are experienced in teaching this content to adolescents.

The international business studies (IBS) major is designed to prepare you to conduct business successfully around the world.

By placing equal emphasis on business and international studies, including advanced language training and a semester abroad, the IBS program will teach you to apply business principles to a region of the world in that region’s native language.

This specialized international training will give you excellent preparation for a wide variety of careers as markets continue to become more globalized.

From its inception just a half century ago, computing has become the defining technology of our age. Computers are integral to modern culture and are the primary engine behind much of the world’s economic growth. Moreover, the field continues to evolve at an astonishing pace, making computer science a vibrant discipline.

UD’s computer science curriculum emphasizes software development and computer theory with the goal that students learn how computers are used to solve real-life problems. Students develop excellent programming skills as they build a solid foundation in the theory and practice of computer science and software engineering. The research of the faculty guides upper-level course offerings, and there are ample opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research projects. Students are encouraged to explore how other subject areas impact and are impacted by computer science through a concentration in a related discipline.

We are committed to providing students with access to the most advanced computer technology available and maintaining research laboratories for areas requiring extensive experimental studies. Students also have access to our high-performance clusters for coursework and research in parallel computing, networking, artificial intelligence, and multimedia.

Think fashion is only about looking good? Think again. The fashion industry is fast-paced, dynamic and global. Fashion professionals need to be prepared in a variety of skills and areas of study in order to be successful in a creative industry that is always pushing for change.

As a student in this program, you will gain competencies in various aspects of the industry including merchandise and assortment planning, product development, consumer behavior, sourcing, distribution channels, communication and sustainability. Industry complexities offer fertile ground for impactful research, critical thinking applications within the classroom and collaborations with corporate partners. Understanding the global platform on which the apparel industry is based is central to our program content.

Perhaps you’ve taken Latin in high school and discovered that you love playing with words and exploring ancient worlds. Maybe you've been introduced to the language at the university level and really enjoy it. If so, put passion into practice with the Latin Education major at the University of Delaware! This collaborative program with the College of Education is excellent preparation for turning this interest into a rewarding career.

Have you ever considered how governments solve complex problems in areas like immigration, healthcare or environmental protection? Through political science you will learn about national and international politics and policymakers. You will also learn valuable skills in critical thought, oral and written communication and quantitative reasoning—the very skills most useful to employers in fields like law, business and journalism, not just politics.

All majors are required to complete three core courses: Introduction to American Politics, Introduction to Global Politics and Research Methods for Political Science. Beyond the core courses, you may choose to major in political science without a concentration or to specialize in one of three concentrations: American politics, global politics or public law. Political science is a flexible major that can complement your many other interests, a second major or minors and prepare you to engage an increasingly complex world.
