With the rapid advances in information technologies, the volume of data that are generated has tremendously increased in recent years. The data come from everywhere: online transactions, mobile apps, sensors, video-capturing systems, social media and more, and are arriving at a scale of terabytes (or even petabytes). Businesses gain strategic and managerial insights by gathering, cleaning and analyzing the data.

Program Highlights

The business analytics major teaches you about the theories and methods of analyzing large volumes of data. You will learn how to leverage data to gain competitive advantages and strategic insights in today’s business world. The major focuses on the following critical skill areas:

Medical laboratory science encompasses the essence of biology, chemistry, and medicine. It is associated with the prevention, diagnosis, and therapy of disease through the understanding, application, and performance of clinical laboratory analyses. Medical laboratory scientists perform laboratory tests on blood and other body fluids to aid in the maintenance of health and the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The medical laboratory science major prepares students for national certification as medical laboratory scientists through the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC).

Freshmen enter as medical laboratory and diagnostics interest majors. In order to enter the medical laboratory science major at the end of the sophomore year certain criteria are required: a minimum 2.00 GPA for the first 4 semesters, minimum 2.00 GPA for prerequisite courses in chemistry and biological sciences (science index), and completion of at least 60 credit hours, including the prerequisite courses. Admission to the junior/senior major is determined by academic achievement. Students who meet the standards are admitted to the major in descending order of grade point average until the 36 positions in the junior class are filled. In the past, all sophomores with both a 2.5 or better GPA and a 2.00 or better science index have been successful in gaining admission to the junior/senior major.

French language courses will help you acquire the skills necessary to communicate effectively in Francophone settings. Courses in politics, business, literature and civilization will provide you with a thorough understanding of French and Francophone political and cultural environments.

From the most recent advances in plant molecular biology to the latest methods for growing and maintaining healthy plants, students in the Plant Science major will incorporate these practices with their evolving knowledge of the plant kingdom. The major offers the flexibility to pursue the areas of plant science that best aligns students with their future goals. Exciting careers in sustainable agriculture and ecosystem sciences, agronomic and horticultural crop production systems, plant science research and biotechnology, and crop protection await you.

The English major offers a practical, multidisciplinary, and flexible array of courses that prepare students for a variety of career paths, including business, law, government, science, the arts, healthcare, education, and multi-media production. Our students learn to write clearly, to speak persuasively, and to read with care and precision, all qualities required for the leadership roles of many professions.

The secondary history education program produces middle and high school teachers who are dedicated to transforming the lives of future generations through teaching social studies. Our graduates are committed to helping adolescents become informed, engaged and caring citizens, knowing that these same students will be the history makers of tomorrow. Students pursuing the B.S. in Mathematics acquire depth in several key areas of mathematics, suitable as preparation for graduate study as well as immediate technically-oriented careers in business and government. Students interested in acquiring breadth in the liberal arts and less depth in mathematics can pursue the B.A. in Mathematics. Training in mathematics develops analytical and problem-solving skills that can be widely applied, and students with a degree in Mathematics frequently find rewarding careers that do not use the word “mathematician” in the job title.

Discover the fascination of Italy and Italian. Students enrolled in the Italian program will find it to be one of the most rewarding and positive linguistic and cultural experiences imaginable. A dedicated and expert faculty offer dynamic courses in language, literature, culture and civilization, film, history, politics and current events as well as classes in translation. On campus and through study abroad, master the four language skills – listening, speaking, reading, writing – while immersing yourself in the culture of Italy. Prepare for graduate study or for a career in international business, journalism, translation, editing, marketing, travel, teaching or many other fields.

Participate in our study abroad programs which include winter session in the medieval city of Siena, summer in sunny Sorrento, or a semester program in the capital city of Rome. On campus, join the Circolo Italiano club to meet other Italian language students, brush up on your language skills and partake in numerous cultural activities. Outstanding students in the Italian program are awarded each year with induction into Gamma Kappa Alpha, the national Italian honors society.
