There is a critical shortage of qualified middle and high school mathematics teachers in schools in our region and across the nation. Mathematics is an important and challenging subject, and teachers well-trained in mathematics and the teaching of mathematics can make mathematics accessible to all middle and high school students with different needs and abilities. This can be a very fulfilling, emotionally satisfying and financially secure career for motivated students. Both the B.A. and B.S. degree programs in mathematics education lead to teacher certification; the B.S. degree may be more suitable for students who have taken or plan to take many credits in math and science, while the B.A. degree is ideal for students who are interested in achieving breadth in the liberal arts.

With a UD accounting degree, you will have the skills you need to tell the financial stories of businesses by recording, analyzing and communicating financial information.

You’ll gain the expertise you need to interpret this data and help businesses make important investment decisions. And you’ll play a critical role in the financial arena, determining how investments are performing over time and considering how and when businesses should expand.

Scientists estimate that 200 to 2,000 species will become extinct each year. Choose to do more by being at the forefront of species conservation. Become part of the team that is working to understand the ecology and conservation of species worldwide and join in the great debate of why every species is important to the survival of our planet. Are you curious about how wild things work and the role they play in our world? If so, you have found your home. From insects to birds, reptiles to mammals, algae to oaks, this major examines all non-domesticated living things and the challenges they face sharing the planet with mankind.

Landscape Architecture is perfect for any student interested in learning ways to address solutions to environmental, natural resource and sustainability challenges at local, regional and global levels. Landscape architects work in cities and communities to help keep air and water clean, provide habitat for wildlife and build safe, beautiful places for people to enjoy. They work in interdisciplinary firms with other professionals to design outside spaces where people live, work and play. So many of your favorite parks, plazas, golf courses and certainly college campuses resulted directly from the hands-on technical expertise and aesthetic sensibility of landscape architects. If you have been to Central Park in New York City or the Baltimore Inner Harbor, you have visited places designed, planned and managed by landscape architects.

The B.A. in Art—one of three undergraduate art and design degrees offered at UD—provides the same foundation in art making through its Core studio courses that B.F.A. students receive along with additional upper level studio courses to further hone the student’s artistic skills. It encourages an interdisciplinary approach with many students earning a minor or second major from departments across the college and university. The B.A. provides an opportunity for students to develop highly personal portfolios that can incorporate art and design with work from other disciplines with very marketable results. The B.A. also reflects developments in Fine Art involving more environmentally and socially engaged art practices, technology or performance-based work, as well as artworks emphasizing academic research.

The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music provides students an opportunity to synthesize intensive study of music with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. The program includes training in music theory, music history/literature, performance ensembles and applied music. Rigorous coursework in music is balanced by significant opportunities for training, research and development in other academic areas. This program is particularly well suited to students with broad ranging artistic and academic interests, and who wish to utilize their music education to advance their careers in unique directions.

As an economics student, you will study how markets work to determine what is produced, how it is produced and how income is distributed. You will explore subjects like the role and impact of international trade, the effect of monopolies on the economy and the problems of unemployment and inflation.

This work will help you develop a strong understanding of businesses, markets and financial organizations. This means that you’ll graduate prepared for careers in the private, public and academic sectors.

In our interconnected world, cyberattacks can affect businesses and communities all over the world, and cybersecurity engineers are the ones defending our rapidly changing digital frontier. Cybersecurity engineers design hardened systems, build secure applications and networks, analyze data breaches and identify vulnerabilities in cyberspace, confronting emerging threats and driving technological innovation. UD Cybersecurity Engineering graduates are in high demand as the cybersecurity industry rapidly grows every year. Most graduates pursue exciting careers in the private sector, including technology companies, banking institutions, and telecommunication providers, as well as government agencies, research centers, and the defense industry. Alternatively, cybersecurity engineering graduates choose to pursue graduate education, including master’s or Ph.D. degrees, as well as attend business, medical or law schools. Students who earn advanced degrees in engineering usually advance into leadership positions within their discipline, or pursue a career in advanced research in industry or academia.

The Bachelor of Music in Music History and Literature provides a rigorous core of courses in the history and literature of Western music and offers opportunities for deeper study in related fields such as music theory, literature, anthropology, philosophy, history and foreign languages. The degree culminates with an extended senior thesis under the mentorship of a member of the music history faculty. This degree is aimed primarily at students preparing to attend graduate school in musicology, although it might be of interest to students who are planning a career in a non-teaching, non-performing area of music such as ensemble management and representation, information sciences or educational media.

Opportunities are available for supported summer research and independent study. Also available to our students is the opportunity for exploration of the school’s extensive collection of period instruments in our Early Music Ensembles, which gives students a chance to perform music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance and Baroque Eras.
