Most entering students have a BA/BS in economics or environmental/agricultural economics. Incoming students should have, at a minimum, coursework in intermediate microeconomic theory, econometrics, and calculus. Areas of interest include agricultural economics, community and regional economics, land economics, water economics, and environmental economics.

The bachelor of science in Earth sciences is offered through the Department of Earth Sciences. The program represents a strong concentration in the Earth sciences and is especially well-suited for students who plan to continue their studies in graduate school. Beyond a central core of courses, there are several possible specializations (climate, geology, geophysics, oceanography) from which students must chose in order to develop depth in a particular area of Earth sciences. Students are encouraged to attend a summer off-campus field experience, for which scholarship funds may be available.

Students choosing the Cinema & Media Arts Option study the creative media industries with a focus on developing professional skills and knowledge relating to careers in film, television and radio. Courses cover topics such as narrative, screenwriting, audio and video production, film history and criticism, documentary, and audience research methods. Students may elect to take an internship in the area of cinema and media arts to help fulfill requirements for the Option.

This degree program offers broad coverage of modern statistical theory and extensive experience using statistical software – including R, SAS and JMP – to analyze complex physical, biological and economic models. The statistics program prepares students for graduate study and provides several elective options that prepare graduates for successful careers in actuarial science.

Earning a Master of Science (M.S.) degree can be the key to unlocking your potential, increasing your salary, and advancing your career. At UNH, the master’s in mechanical engineering will provide you with advanced training in any of a variety of specialized concentrations, including fluid dynamics and thermal science, mechanics, materials science, design and manufacturing, dynamic systems and control, and ocean engineering. You’ll have the opportunity to conduct original research, complete a thesis and publish papers in any of these areas. Moreover, students enrolled in this program are eligible for teacher assistant and research assistant funding.

The psychology major provides students with a broad education, while also allowing some specialization. The program exposes students to the scientific study of behavior and encourages an increased understanding of the behavior of humans and animals.

Students who wish to declare psychology as a major after enrolling in the University should consult with the department's academic counselor for application procedures and criteria.

The Option in Global Trade and Finance (B.A. degree) studies the global trade and financial systems and their importance for understanding macroeconomics and business activity, foreign direct investments and other international capital flows, globalization, economic growth and development, international financial markets, and currency fluctuations and risk.

Students will learn about the role of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and other institutions undergirding the global economy. Students will develop institutional knowledge and analytical skills to study some of the most hotly debated issues of our day, including free-trade policies such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and WTO, global financial crises, Basel III and other financial reforms, European monetary union, and international policy coordination.

The option is designed for students interested in careers at international organizations such as the IMF, WTO, World Bank, and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). This option also prepares students for careers in the financial services sector, including commercial and investment banking, financial trading, security analysis, portfolio management, and financial advising, and in the government sector, especially at the Federal Reserve System, U.S. Trade Administration, and U.S. State Department.

The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Option is intended to provide the core of knowledge expected of a computer and/or electrical engineer to provide engineering services in the biomedical field. Electrical and/or computer engineers with this option in biomedical engineering combine engineering principles with medical and biological sciences to design and create equipment, devices, computer systems, and software used in healthcare.  The BME option is embedded in both the Electrical Engineering (EE) program and the Computer Engineering (CE) program.

The M.A. program in sociology will provide foundational training in critical thinking and research and a deeper understanding of the social causes and consequences of human behavior. You’ll build skills in data analysis, research design and sociological theory, and engage in research on topics such as environment and social change, gender, race and inequality, family, social demography, and stress and mental health. Our master’s program culminates in an original research thesis project, and these analytical and research skills will prepare you for a wide range of careers in research, education, health and human services, law, business, public policy and government.

Nurses use clinical judgement and decision-making skills to determine patient, family and community needs, and provide evidence-based treatment and healthcare guidance. UNH nursing graduates become part of the workforce that is helping to shape the future of healthcare. A nursing degree will prepare you for work in a wide range of areas, including emergency and critical care, family practice, school nurse, assisted living settings and a vast array of hospital and rehabilitation settings.
