Overview
The graduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders prepares students for professional practice with individuals who face communication challenges across the life span in any practice setting. Students complete a combination of required and elective courses and clinical practicum to apply theory to practice. Students complete a variety of practicum experiences in the university clinic as well as educational, rehabilitative, and private practice settings to enhance applied learning. The Graduate Program of Study includes two full years of study, including two summers and J-term.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

The M.A. program in sociology will provide foundational training in critical thinking and research and a deeper understanding of the social causes and consequences of human behavior. You’ll build skills in data analysis, research design and sociological theory, and engage in research on topics such as environment and social change, gender, race and inequality, family, social demography, and stress and mental health. Our master’s program culminates in an original research thesis project, and these analytical and research skills will prepare you for a wide range of careers in research, education, health and human services, law, business, public policy and government.

Master of Science in Hydrology (STEM)
This program is intended for students with an interest in ground- and surface-water hydrology, water quality, quantitative and statistical hydrology, and water resource management. Durham, where the university is located, is situated where the Oyster River enters Great Bay, one of the most important estuaries of the Gulf of Maine. Only ten miles away are the Atlantic beaches and Portsmouth, a deep water harbor.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Information Systems and Business Analytics Option)
The Option in Information Systems and Business Analytics will appeal to students who wish to learn how to take advantage of contemporary technologies to solve complex business problems. Pivotal contributors to the success of any venture, Information Systems and Business Analysts must be able to understand and communicate both the business needs as well as the technical details of solutions. The option prepares students for a career in a wide range of industries by helping them master the fundamentals of information systems, as well as the ability to implement solutions or provide leading-edge, analytics-based solutions to real business problems. Students work on real-world industry projects and apply concepts and problem-solving skills learned in the classroom.
All students in the option develop functional knowledge and skills in information systems and business analytics. Beyond the required courses in the option, students choose between an emphasis in Information Systems or an emphasis in Business Analytics.

The evidence-based nursing track focuses on developing advanced generalist nursing practice in a focused area of study, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering life-long learning, and preparing students for the leading edge of health care knowledge and delivery. Students strengthen knowledge and skills in clinical decision making, the application of nursing interventions, and their ability to critique and appropriately use evidence as a foundation for practice. In this graduate track, students study nursing as an applied discipline, advancing their knowledge of theoretical perspectives for clinical practice, with an emphasis on leadership; the cultural, social, and political context of health and illness; and quality improvement methodologies. Students are mentored in the enactment of leadership strategies to improve quality care in nursing practice through an intensive clinical practicum.

The Latin and Latin Teaching (LLT) option is designed to provide a good foundational liberal arts education centered on Latin and the Roman world, but it also includes specific elements that make it particularly appropriate for students who are considering careers teaching Latin in secondary schools after graduation. This option does not lead directly to state certification, which can be pursued during a fifth year of study in the Department of Education.
