By identifying each of these proteins, scientists hope to better understand how your body works, and what is happening when it doesn't work properly, leading to more effective medicines and treatments.

As a genetics and biotechnology major at the University of New Haven, you’ll learn this first hand, using technology to modify living organisms to benefit humankind. You’ll develop the knowledge and skills needed to excel in this exciting, flourishing field.

Through this program, you will:

• Take courses in biochemistry, genetics, cellular, and molecular biology
• Experience unique and innovative courses in nucleic acid biochemistry, genomics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology of proteins

The 12-credit general concentration allows students to select from a set of courses related to the field of clinical mental health counseling, including courses available in the other concentrations.

Program Outcomes:

• Students will demonstrate competence in all 8 core domains of counseling, as well as the concentration of clinical mental health counseling.
• Students successfully synthesize major theoretical concepts in the core counseling curriculum and their concentration area with their practicum experience.
• Students demonstrate, at a professional level, applied intervention skills in the internship.

The program consists of 60 credits, 48 of which compose the core curriculum completed by all students, and 12 of which constitute one of three concentration areas: general, forensic mental health, or community development.

The objective of the Master of Science in Accounting program is to provide an in-depth framework for corporate, accounting analytics, and taxation accounting inquiry, devised in structure and content from the entire scope and process of accounting-information-based economic decision-making. The existence of such a framework is intended to provide graduate accountants and professional practitioners with an opportunity to share in the development and assessment of issues of accounting interest within a decision-making context. Additionally, the Master of Science in Accounting program is designed to provide non-accountants and practitioners with the accounting credits requisite for certification.

The accounting analytics concentration provides the tools for data analysis used in auditing, predictive modeling, and business operations analytics.  These tools will enhance the traditional skillsets provided in the Master of Science in Accounting core.  This is a cutting-edge field in the modern American marketplace.

As a criminal justice major at the University of New Haven, you’ll join one of the nation’s most established and diversified criminal justice programs. It’s a program that allows you to customize a major that fuses your interests with pragmatic, sought-after learning opportunities that will lead you to a successful and fulfilling career in this challenging and rewarding field.

Program Outcomes:

• Analyze a substantial body of literature related to police, corrections, or courts.
• Communicate criminal justice concepts orally and in writing.
• Evaluate and moral issues in a professional/disciplinary setting.
• Demonstrate the knowledge of theory, methods, and empirical findings related to issues of police, correction, and courts.

Within each program option described above, students may concentrate in industrial-human resources, organizational development, or conflict management. A concentration requires 12 credits of electives, which are counted as part of the 21 credits required in the elective option (Thesis, Internship/Practicum, or Approved Electives) selected by the student. If a concentration is selected, the student must notify the program coordinator as well as the Registrar. A concentration is not required if the student’s educational or career goals can best be met without this specialization.

Program Outcomes

• Students will master theory and techniques related to core areas of industrial-organizational psychology including talent identification and development, work motivation, training, human capital practices, organization and group behavior.
• Students will learn how to employ the knowledge gained through their classes to the workplace through supervised experiential learning opportunities such as internships, practicum, case studies, and applied research projects.
• Students will conduct applied organizational research and interpret research used to make business decisions.

A total of 45 credits is required of candidates for the master of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology. Candidates for this degree must complete 24 credits of basic program requirements. Another 21 credits (including concentrations, program options, and electives) are chosen after consultation with the program coordinator in light of the student’s academic and professional goals. Students may not complete more than nine credits of electives until they have satisfied the basic requirements. Up to nine credits of electives may be taken in other departments, such as industrial engineering, economics, management, marketing, and public administration.

Medical laboratory scientists are educated to work in clinical chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, immunology, and microbiology with various sub-specialties in each of those major areas.

Laboratory analysis by medical laboratory scientists plays a critical role, along with that of the physician, in disease diagnosis, treatment, and health maintenance. Medical laboratory scientists are professionals who are prepared not only to produce laboratory data but also to assure the quality of those data, compare and select laboratory methods, advise other health care professionals on the validity of data, and supervise laboratory personnel

The University’s full-time MBA program, which is one of only two in Connecticut – and less than 30 across the U.S. – that offer concentrations that are STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) certified by the federal government, enables you to both master new skills through rigorous coursework and build a portfolio of experience through internships and real-world learning opportunities that will prepare you to excel.

Our program is a great choice for those who’ve recently completed an undergraduate degree or who are looking to continue their education straight out of college. The program’s schedule allows for students to complete the program in as few as 12 months for those who meet the criteria to waive the three business foundation courses, and carry a 12-credit hour load. Students who do not meet the waiver criteria may complete the program in less than two years.

As a political science major at the University of New Haven, you will develop an understanding of our complex political system and its players, and explore how and where you can make an impact.

You will have the opportunity to conduct data-driven projects with well-respected researchers, learn the craft of politics from real policymakers, become a part of the University’s award-winning Model United Nations team, explore the world through our study abroad programs to France, Japan, Germany, and England, and pursue a variety of internships in Washington, D.C., Hartford, and the New Haven area.

Studying political science can open up a wide range of job opportunities in government, business, the nonprofit sector, the legal system, and entrepreneurial occupations. The reason? Students majoring in Business management have the option of pursuing the concentration in Human Resource Management. Human Resource (HR) positions are in demand.

The goal of the Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resource management (HRM) is to prepare students to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities in the main areas of the field of HRM such as workforce planning and talent management, training and developing, leading performance management, motivating and rewarding employees, dealing with labor relations, and creating a safe environment where human resources can thrive and contribute to the growth of their organization. Besides the specialized set of competencies that student will acquire in HRM, they will also be able to develop a solid background in the areas of business management and liberal arts. Graduates of this program will have the ability to assume entry-level management and HR specialist positions in a variety of private, public, and non-profit organizations.

Students earning a B.S. degree in Business Management are required to complete 121 credits, including the university core curriculum (41 credits) and the business program core (30 credits).  The major allows the flexibility to minor in a wide array of related areas such as entrepreneurship or marketing.

Marketing exists all throughout the world around us, and has many roles in business. Behind the every great concept or product is a creative mind helping to market it and promote to the masses. As a marketing major at the University of New Haven you’ll complement a strong foundation in the principles of business by specializing in how e-commerce and marketing technologies such as social media, database marketing, Google AdWords, and data mining have impacted – and forever changed – the traditional study and practice of marketing
