The International Business - Economics degree is designed to provide in-depth expertise in the discipline of economics while it concurrently provides students with a broader, global business perspective. Such perspective is essential to operating in today’s increasing complex multi-national business context. The program ensures students have a proficiency in a second language, enhanced socio-cultural awareness and a robust study abroad experience. Today’s business climate is marked by fluid and interconnected financial markets, widely available technological advancements that increase global connectivity, increased international trade, and the emergence of vibrant growing economies in what were formerly considered third world countries. Increased globalization has necessitated that managers have a broad, holistic perspective that incorporates the diverse components of an international business degree. The Event and Tourism Management Concentration provides students with skills and experiences focused specifically on the event and tourism industries. Students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experience relevant for managing the sustainable tourism experience for the benefit of the traveler, host, and supporting industries. Complex aspects of event, convention, and meeting management are highlighted. Students will also be exposed to the competencies essential to functioning within the industry in an international context.

Students earning a B.S. degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a concentration in Event and Tourism Management are required to complete 121 credits, including the University core curriculum (41 credits), Hospitality and Tourism Management major requirements (36 credits), Event and Tourism Management concentration (9 credits), Writing Across the Curriculum elective (3 credits), fieldwork (2 credits), service requirement (1 credit), internship (3 credits) and free electives (26 credits).

Electrical engineering is concerned with the analysis, design, development, and operation of electrical and electronic systems. Examples of these systems include communication, fiber optics, data processing, power generation, and distribution, control, and instrumentation. Digital circuits and computers are important and integral parts of such systems and are widely used by electrical engineers in their design and development. The electrical engineer is also concerned with the devices that make up systems such as transistors, integrated circuits, rotating machines, antennas, lasers, and computer-memory devices.

Recognizing the changing trend in engineering education, the Electrical Engineering program has adopted a multidisciplinary approach for teaching and learning by incorporating a series of newly developed project-oriented courses based on the spiral curriculum.

The early part of the program emphasizes electrical engineering skills that form the background for the upper-level elective and design courses. Physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer programming, basic engineering science, and general education courses supplement the required and elective electrical engineering courses.

The upper-level electrical engineering course work provides areas of concentration for in-depth study. Students can choose additional technical electives from outside the area of concentration to provide more breadth of knowledge.

An important feature of the electrical engineering curriculum is the design experience. Our students develop the ability to formulate problems, analyze appropriate models, conduct empirical tests, gather relevant information, interpret empirical tests, develop appropriate models, develop alternative solutions, and synthesize in our laboratory sequence. This sequence of courses takes the student in gradual steps from a well-structured laboratory experiment in the sophomore year to an open-ended design project in the senior year. This allows students to gain practical experience in engineering design.

Along with the competencies gained in the electrical engineering major, students may enroll in a cybersecurity concentration.  This concentration provides students the opportunity to be part of the growing workforce of cybersecurity as cybersecurity analysts, engineers, offensive security specialists, responders, and investigators, depending on their course choices.

One of only a small number of such programs in the United States, our master’s program in fire and explosion investigation offers 39 credits* of interdisciplinary coursework in fire/arson investigation, emergency management, public safety, and more. Students in the program study alongside leading professionals in the fire service including current and former fire and police chiefs, homeland security executives, private investigators, and insurance agents. Successful alumni have moved on to leadership positions in local fire departments, state and federal emergency agencies, and private firms.

Students take required courses in topics such as the chemistry of fires, dynamics of structural fires, and arson analysis. Candidates will also chose from a series of electives that explores issues, including fire and building codes, fire scene reconstruction, terrorism, and industrial fire protection.

Medical laboratory scientists are educated to work in clinical chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, immunology, and microbiology with various sub-specialties in each of those major areas.

Laboratory analysis by medical laboratory scientists plays a critical role, along with that of the physician, in disease diagnosis, treatment, and health maintenance. Medical laboratory scientists are professionals who are prepared not only to produce laboratory data but also to assure the quality of those data, compare and select laboratory methods, advise other health care professionals on the validity of data, and supervise laboratory personnel

All of society’s enterprises - business, governmental, educational, and military - are becoming increasingly sophisticated and complex. There is an unrivaled and growing need for skilled managers. Contemporary managers must attend to global competition, understand complex logistical matters, maintain service quality, and continuously improve as they monitor and respond to a rapidly changing business environment. In response to these needs, the management program seeks to provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to obtain and advance in professional managerial positions in both domestic and international corporations.

The Department of Management offers both a B.S. in Business Management and a B.S. in International Business - Management. The department also offers a diverse set of concentrations and minors.  Students may choose to complete the B.S. in Business Management without any concentration or they may add a concentration in either Human Resources Management, Sport Management, or Esports Management.  Students interested in the B.S. in International Business - Management should examine that part of the catalog for details.
