As a forensic science major at the University of New Haven, you will learn to use science and technology to uncover evidence that can "testify" in court and impact criminal or civil cases. You will sharpen your powers of observation and learn how to identify and interpret such evidence in one of the most respected forensic science programs in the country, a program enthusiastically endorsed by the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission (FEPAC).

And, you will have the opportunity to study in the world-renowned Henry C. Lee Institute for Forensic Science. This state-of-the-art center – named after the legendary investigator – features working crime-scene labs and high-tech visual displays, and serves as a go-to resource for law enforcement agencies around the globe.

Here, and in mock crime scenes on campus, our students:

• Learn to interpret physical evidence, provide objective insights, and become adept at the intricate science of forensics
• Use the latest crime-solving resources and equipment while staying up-to-date on continuously changing developments and techniques
• Work in interactive internship programs throughout the U.S. or engage in faculty-mentored research projects

The Master of Public Administration is the most widely accepted and valued professional degree in the field of Public Service. Our MPA program provides students with the core skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful professional in Public Service, as well as offering students an opportunity to complete a concentration in one of five timely areas: 1) Municipal Management, 2) Public Financial Management, 3) Public Safety, 4) Nonprofit Management, and 5) Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Our MPA accommodates the needs of students new to the field as well as those already working in public service. In both cases, we seek students who are motivated to increase their knowledge and gain the skills necessary to take on challenging assignments in public service, particularly at the state and local level.

The Public Safety concentration is designed to give students a focused background in local and state Public Safety, from the perspectives of Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Fire Science, or National Security. In consultation with their academic advisor, students who choose this concentration must choose three courses (9 credits) from the array of graduate public safety courses offered by the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences.  Course include those from within the domains of Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Fire Science, Investigations, Legal Studies or National Security as well as others that are approved by the student’s academic advisor.

As a political science major at the University of New Haven, you will develop an understanding of our complex political system and its players, and explore how and where you can make an impact.

You will have the opportunity to conduct data-driven projects with well-respected researchers, learn the craft of politics from real policymakers, become a part of the University’s award-winning Model United Nations team, explore the world through our study abroad programs to France, Japan, Germany, and England, and pursue a variety of internships in Washington, D.C., Hartford, and the New Haven area.

Studying political science can open up a wide range of job opportunities in government, business, the nonprofit sector, the legal system, and entrepreneurial occupations. The reason? Marketing exists all throughout the world around us, and has many roles in business. Behind the every great concept or product is a creative mind helping to market it and promote to the masses. As a marketing major at the University of New Haven you’ll complement a strong foundation in the principles of business by specializing in how e-commerce and marketing technologies such as social media, database marketing, Google AdWords, and data mining have impacted – and forever changed – the traditional study and practice of marketing

Civil engineering positions account for the most jobs of any engineering field, and this job growth is predicted to continue. In Connecticut alone, job openings for civil and environmental engineers are expected to grow by 13.8 percent through 2022, which is higher than the aggregate rate of growth for all occupations in the state.

Federal funding for sustainable and "green" development has also led to an increase in environmentallyfriendly infrastructure projects, which has driven demand for civil and environmental engineers.

The general purpose of this concentration is to prepare men and women at the graduate level to lead fire and emergency medical service organizations. The program strives to equip students with modern analytic and quantitative tools of decision making and their application to complex problems of government and non-profit organizations. The program will increase the student’s knowledge and skills in the particular management functions of budgeting, planning, public policy formulation, public finance, public personnel administration, and collective bargaining.

The 12-credit forensic mental health concentration prepares students for counseling specifically focused on care of offenders or victims in forensic settings.

Program Outcomes

• Students will demonstrate competence in all 8 core domains of counseling, as well as the concentration of clinical mental health counseling.
• Students successfully synthesize major theoretical concepts in the core counseling curriculum and their concentration area with their practicum experience.
• Students demonstrate, at a professional level, applied intervention skills in the internship.

The program consists of 60 credits, 48 of which compose the core curriculum completed by all students, and 12 of which constitute one of three concentration areas: general, forensic mental health, or community development.

Students who concentrate in Municipal Management focus on the administration, management, and advancement of local or regional governmental units

Program Outcomes:

• Complete and understand the basis for public administration and the development of the public administration paradigm.
• Students should have begun to analyze and interpret real world data and its presentation to an audience.
• Student should be able to judge his/her fit into the organization as well as its internal dynamics.
• Student should be able to handle themselves in a variety of challenging environments.

You will study, and receive training in, various forms of forensic field technology such as ground penetrating radar, laser scanners, portable instruments, and biometric devices. The utilization of these instruments are critical to modern criminal investigations. Also, restricted electives associated with the program allow you to develop specialized knowledge in areas such as bloodstain pattern analysis, firearms evidence, and forensic anthropology.

You will complete a minimum of 42 credits of graduate work, which includes a required internship or research project designed to fulfill the Master of Science Capstone requirement. In this, you will benefit from the strong connections that the University of New Haven has forged with local and state police as well as the state medical examiner.
