As an English major at the University of New Haven, you’ll study contemporary fiction and poetry while you explore public speaking and writing for business. You’ll develop and hone an exceptional writing ability, develop critical thinking skills, and learn to communicate with clarity and strength through the written and spoken word.

Thirty credits in English beyond the first year writing courses are required for a major in English.  Students completing a B.A. in English must complete the English Core, and the requirements for one of the concentrations in English (concentration in literature or concentration in writing).  In addition, they must complete 40 credits of the University Core Curriculum with the following restrictions:

• ENGL courses cannot be used to satisfy CC 8 or CC 9
• A student can take no more than one ENGL course in Tier 2 of CC 1

• Medical devices such as artificial lungs, replacement heart valves, pacemakers, dental implants, catheters, stents, and hip and knee prostheses

As a criminal justice major at the University of New Haven, you’ll join one of the nation’s most established and diversified criminal justice programs. Program Outcomes:

• Demonstrate the knowledge of theory, methods, and empirical findings related to issues of police, correction, and courts.
• Analyze a substantial body of literature related to police, corrections, or courts.
• Communicate criminal justice concepts orally and in writing.
• Evaluate and moral issues in a professional/disciplinary setting.

Within each program option described above, students may concentrate in industrial-human resources, organizational development, or conflict management. A concentration requires 12 credits of electives, which are counted as part of the 21 credits required in the elective option (Thesis, Internship/Practicum, or Approved Electives) selected by the student. If a concentration is selected, the student must notify the program coordinator as well as the Registrar. A concentration is not required if the student’s educational or career goals can best be met without this specialization.

Program Outcomes

• Students will master theory and techniques related to core areas of industrial-organizational psychology including talent identification and development, work motivation, training, human capital practices, organization and group behavior.
• Students will learn how to employ the knowledge gained through their classes to the workplace through supervised experiential learning opportunities such as internships, practicum, case studies, and applied research projects.
• Students will conduct applied organizational research and interpret research used to make business decisions.

A total of 45 credits is required of candidates for the master of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology. Candidates for this degree must complete 24 credits of basic program requirements. Another 21 credits (including concentrations, program options, and electives) are chosen after consultation with the program coordinator in light of the student’s academic and professional goals. Students may not complete more than nine credits of electives until they have satisfied the basic requirements. Up to nine credits of electives may be taken in other departments, such as industrial engineering, economics, management, marketing, and public administration.

The B.S. degree in business analytics prepares students for careers that use data to support and inform business decision-making and management. Students learn skills in a natural progression including assembling and managing data, displaying data, uncovering patterns in data, developing predictive models, and using these models to make better decisions across all business domains. Business analytics skills are in demand across a wide range of industries including healthcare, sports, marketing, finance, consulting, global supply-chain operations, and information technology. Students are encouraged to develop expertise in a functional business discipline such as supply-chain management, health care management, marketing or finance using elective coursework.

The global supply chain anlaytics concentration teaches students to improve supply chain efficiency by using their quantitative analytical skills.

Students earning a B.S. degree in business analytics are required to complete 121 credits, including the university core curriculum (41 credits) and the business program core (30 credits).

The University’s full-time MBA program, which is one of only two in Connecticut – and less than 30 across the U.S. – that offer concentrations that are STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) certified by the federal government, enables you to both master new skills through rigorous coursework and build a portfolio of experience through internships and real-world learning opportunities that will prepare you to excel.

Our program is a great choice for those who’ve recently completed an undergraduate degree or who are looking to continue their education straight out of college. The program’s schedule allows for students to complete the program in as few as 12 months for those who meet the criteria to waive the three business foundation courses, and carry a 12-credit hour load. Students who do not meet the waiver criteria may complete the program in less than two years.

Human Resource Management

The concentration develops the strategic approach to effective management of an organization’s workforce.

The Master of Public Administration is the most widely accepted and valued professional degree in the field of Public Service. Our MPA program provides students with the core skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful professional in Public Service, as well as offering students an opportunity to complete a concentration in one of five timely areas: 1) Municipal Management, 2) Public Financial Management, 3) Public Safety, 4) Nonprofit Management, and 5) Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Our MPA accommodates the needs of students new to the field as well as those already working in public service. In both cases, we seek students who are motivated to increase their knowledge and gain the skills necessary to take on challenging assignments in public service, particularly at the state and local level.

The Public Financial Management concentration provides students with the analytic skills and knowledge to assess the finances and economic position of a municipality or other governmental unit with the power to tax

Medical laboratory scientists are educated to work in clinical chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, immunology, and microbiology with various sub-specialties in each of those major areas.

Laboratory analysis by medical laboratory scientists plays a critical role, along with that of the physician, in disease diagnosis, treatment, and health maintenance. Medical laboratory scientists are professionals who are prepared not only to produce laboratory data but also to assure the quality of those data, compare and select laboratory methods, advise other health care professionals on the validity of data, and supervise laboratory personnel

Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences.  Course include those from within the domains of Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Fire Science, Investigations, Legal Studies or National Security as well as others that are approved by the student’s academic advisor.
