Within each program option described above, students may concentrate in industrial-human resources, organizational development, or conflict management. A concentration requires 12 credits of electives, which are counted as part of the 21 credits required in the elective option (Thesis, Internship/Practicum, or Approved Electives) selected by the student. If a concentration is selected, the student must notify the program coordinator as well as the Registrar. A concentration is not required if the student’s educational or career goals can best be met without this specialization.

Program Outcomes

• Students will master theory and techniques related to core areas of industrial-organizational psychology including talent identification and development, work motivation, training, human capital practices, organization and group behavior.
• Students will learn how to employ the knowledge gained through their classes to the workplace through supervised experiential learning opportunities such as internships, practicum, case studies, and applied research projects.
• Students will conduct applied organizational research and interpret research used to make business decisions.

A total of 45 credits is required of candidates for the master of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology. Candidates for this degree must complete 24 credits of basic program requirements. Another 21 credits (including concentrations, program options, and electives) are chosen after consultation with the program coordinator in light of the student’s academic and professional goals. Students may not complete more than nine credits of electives until they have satisfied the basic requirements. Up to nine credits of electives may be taken in other departments, such as industrial engineering, economics, management, marketing, and public administration.

As a forensic science major at the University of New Haven, you will learn to use science and technology to uncover evidence that can "testify" in court and impact criminal or civil cases. Our program is a great choice for those who’ve recently completed an undergraduate degree or who are looking to continue their education straight out of college. The program’s schedule allows for students to complete the program in as few as 12 months for those who meet the criteria to waive the three business foundation courses, and carry a 12-credit hour load. Students who do not meet the waiver criteria may complete the program in less than two years.

The Absolute Value of the 2022 Mathematics Research Community

The American Mathematics Society (AMS) has accepted a proposal by faculty members — including the University of New Haven’s Daniel Cicala — for a Mathematics Research Community on Applied Category Theory to be held in the summer of 2022. The faculty will lead 40 early-career mathematicians through an intensive week of research on that topic. The AMS Mathematics Research Communities is a professional development program for mathematicians who are just starting out. The program helps them develop collaborative research skills and build a network centered around an active research domain. Mentoring from leaders in the specific topic area and valuable career guidance are also part of the equation.

Program Outcomes

1. Knowledge Base of Psychology Students will demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, ethical principles, and historical trends in psychology.

2. Research Methods in Psychology Students will understand and apply basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis, and interpretation

3. Critical Thinking Skills in Psychology Students will use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry, reflection, and, when possible, the scientific approach to solve problems related to behavior and mental processes.

4. Communication in Psychology Students will learn how to communicate competently and in a scholarly manner about psychological concepts in writing and orally.

The B.A. in psychology program requires the completion of 122 credits, 53-62 of which are required to complete the major.

To complete the major, students must complete 25 credits of core psychology courses, 7 credits of non-psychology required courses, and select one of the following: a 21-credit concentration in general psychology, a 27-credit concentration in clinical psychology, a 27-credit concentration in community and society, or a 30-credit concentration in forensic psychology; and complete the University Core Curriculum with the following restrictions:

To produce graduates who are competent, caring Registered Dietitian Nutritionists who remain active in the practice, by providing innovative, inter-professional, student centered education with a focus on experiential education, and with an emphasis on lifelong learning.

The Master of Science in Nutrition Sciences program provides a curriculum and supervised experiences that are designed to fulfill required competencies established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics under the Future Education Model (FEM) accreditation. Successful completion of the program results in a Verification Statement from the Program Director authorizing eligibility to sit for the national registration exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing agency of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Successful passage of this exam confers the title Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and digital media will build specialized knowledge and skills related to public relations across a variety of platforms and contexts in addition to acquiring a solid grounding in digital media production.  Through coursework emphasizing writing, campaigns, and persuasion, as well as laboratory and field experiences in digital media design and production along with internship opportunities, students will learn to become competent and well-rounded public relations professionals.

The International Business - Economics degree is designed to provide in-depth expertise in the discipline of economics while it concurrently provides students with a broader, global business perspective. Such perspective is essential to operating in today’s increasing complex multi-national business context. The program ensures students have a proficiency in a second language, enhanced socio-cultural awareness and a robust study abroad experience. Today’s business climate is marked by fluid and interconnected financial markets, widely available technological advancements that increase global connectivity, increased international trade, and the emergence of vibrant growing economies in what were formerly considered third world countries. Increased globalization has necessitated that managers have a broad, holistic perspective that incorporates the diverse components of an international business degree.
