It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Our Cybersecurity and Networks program prepares you for these careers with a combination of practical skills and cutting-edge knowledge, leading you to success as an Information Security Analyst, Digital Forensic Examiner, Network Engineer, or System Administrator — to name just a few of your possible career titles.

There are two versions to the program. One version is for those who already hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related field, while the other is for those with no prior education in these areas. Those coming to the program without this education simply complete a set of four additional bridge courses on the topics of programming and computer systems. These will help you transition from your previous background to a level of readiness that enables you to successfully pursue the rest of the degree program.

A Serious Project Prepares You for the Real World of Cybersecurity and Networks

You will complete a substantial project that will demonstrate your level of expertise and professionalism so that you can hit the ground running when you land that coveted position in your chosen area. There are three ways to satisfy the project requirement: a thesis for which research would be done; taking a course in which a significant project occurs; or taking a separate course specifically dedicated to a project.

Electrical engineering is concerned with the analysis, design, development, and operation of electrical and electronic systems. Examples of these systems include communication, fiber optics, data processing, power generation, and distribution, control, and instrumentation. Digital circuits and computers are important and integral parts of such systems and are widely used by electrical engineers in their design and development. The electrical engineer is also concerned with the devices that make up systems such as transistors, integrated circuits, rotating machines, antennas, lasers, and computer-memory devices.

Recognizing the changing trend in engineering education, the Electrical Engineering program has adopted a multidisciplinary approach for teaching and learning by incorporating a series of newly developed project-oriented courses based on the spiral curriculum.

The early part of the program emphasizes electrical engineering skills that form the background for the upper-level elective and design courses. Physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer programming, basic engineering science, and general education courses supplement the required and elective electrical engineering courses.

The upper-level electrical engineering course work provides areas of concentration for in-depth study. Students can choose additional technical electives from outside the area of concentration to provide more breadth of knowledge.

To influence our society’s evolution, the electrical engineer must acquire an understanding of our society, our cultural heritage, and the human condition. The engineer must communicate ideas to other engineers and to the public. The Electrical Engineering program enables this via liberal and humanistic studies. The University Core Curriculum requirements allow students to expand their cultural and intellectual horizons by exposing them to the humanities and social sciences. Students learn written and oral communication skills in the core courses as well as in multidisciplinary engineering-science courses in the freshman and sophomore years. Students apply these skills in the humanities and social science courses as well as in laboratory/design courses in their major.

The University’s full-time MBA program, which is one of only two in Connecticut – and less than 30 across the U.S. – that offer concentrations that are STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) certified by the federal government, enables you to both master new skills through rigorous coursework and build a portfolio of experience through internships and real-world learning opportunities that will prepare you to excel.

Our program is a great choice for those who’ve recently completed an undergraduate degree or who are looking to continue their education straight out of college. The program’s schedule allows for students to complete the program in as few as 12 months for those who meet the criteria to waive the three business foundation courses, and carry a 12-credit hour load. Students who do not meet the waiver criteria may complete the program in less than two years.

Global Supply Chain Management

The concentration advances the student’s knowledge of and proficiency in the administration of integrated decision practices that create efficiencies within the organization.

Environmental Studies & Earth Sciences

Master of Science in Environmental Science (STEM)

A program grounded firmly in the University’s commitment to experiential education, the M.S. in Environmental Science program provides students with extensive hands-on learning opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. Our shoreline location allows students to gain experience working in a variety of settings along the marsh and ocean areas of Long Island Sound — experiences that are complemented by work in our laboratories. Students also have the unique opportunity to study at the Gerace Research Centre on San Salvador Island in the Bahamas. With studies in environmental ecology, environmental geoscience, environmental health and management, geographical information systems, and other topics, the program allows students to customize their education to their individual career interests.

As a required component of the program, students complete a research project, thesis, or internship. These experiences have led our students to fulfilling careers in private environmental firms, government agencies, and more. Many students have also chosen to pursue doctoral study at other institutions following graduation.
