AI/Analytics concentration (STEM-certified): Develop a competency for data analysis and the tools used in auditing, predictive modeling, forensic accounting, and business operations analytics, equipping you with the skills need to succeed in a cutting-edge field in the modern American marketplace.

Corporate concentration: Refine your accounting skills for a career in either a publicly held or private company. Learn about financial, managerial, taxation and International accounting and taxation standards and procedures and how to apply them to various entities.

Forensic concentration:  Learn about investigative accounting, valuation theory and practice, fraud examination, building the skills you need to work in the growing field of forensic accounting

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The Master of Public Administration is the most widely accepted and valued professional degree in the field of Public Service. Our MPA program provides students with the core skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful professional in Public Service, as well as offering students an opportunity to complete a concentration in one of five timely areas: 1) Municipal Management, 2) Public Financial Management, 3) Public Safety, 4) Nonprofit Management, and 5) Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Our MPA accommodates the needs of students new to the field as well as those already working in public service. In both cases, we seek students who are motivated to increase their knowledge and gain the skills necessary to take on challenging assignments in public service, particularly at the state and local level.

The Public Safety concentration is designed to give students a focused background in local and state Public Safety, from the perspectives of Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Fire Science, or National Security. In consultation with their academic advisor, students who choose this concentration must choose three courses (9 credits) from the array of graduate public safety courses offered by the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences.  Course include those from within the domains of Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Fire Science, Investigations, Legal Studies or National Security as well as others that are approved by the student’s academic advisor.

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in film production and media entrepreneurship will build the knowledge and skills related to film production in addition to a solid grounding in communication entrepreneurial fundamentals.  Through coursework emphasizing writing, production, and distribution, as well as laboratory and available internship opportunities, students will learn to become competent and well-rounded film production professionals.

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in film production and media entrepreneurship are required to complete a total of 121 credits as follows.

Data Science is an emerging field that combines methods from machine learning, artificial intelligence, and statistics with entirely new technologies for handling vast amounts of complex and quickly-changing data. The job of a data scientist is to apply these methods to gather information and achieve goals that are otherwise impossible for human experts due the large quantities and complexity of the data.

In the University of New Haven’s M.S. in data science program, you will develop proficiencies in the key skills expected of leading data scientists, including deep learning and statistical analysis, and the data skills needed to work with unstructured data and Natural Language Processing (NLP).

Possible roles and applications include:

  • Energy: Creating a system for the best distribution of electricity on a city’s power grid, to maximizing utilization of wind and solar resources through quickly-changing weather conditions.

The International Business - Finance degree is designed to provide in-depth expertise in the discipline of finance while it concurrently provides students with a broader, global business perspective. Such perspective is essential to operating in today’s increasing complex multi-national business context. The program ensures students have a proficiency in a second language, enhanced socio-cultural awareness and a robust study abroad experience. Today’s business climate is marked by fluid and interconnected financial markets, widely available technological advancements that increase global connectivity, increased international trade, and the emergence of vibrant growing economies in what were formerly considered third world countries. The University of New Haven’s M.S. in Chemistry is a practiced-based program that will enable you to take an integrative approach to solving practical chemistry problems and prepare you to pursue a career in a variety of fields.

You’ll begin by gaining a broad background in chemical theories, computational chemistry methods, analysis of experimental data, design of chemical materials, modern organic chemistry, design of molecular drugs, the design of sustainable chemical processes, and current challenges in the field of chemistry.

In addition to developing an expertise in organic, analytical, and computational chemistry, you’ll take courses in biomedical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, math, and cellular and molecular biology.

Through this program, you will also:

Accountants have the critical task of providing a comprehensive picture of a company’s financial health so that business owners can make informed decisions that directly impact their company’s bottom line. That is why the field of accounting is a breeding ground for business leaders. In fact, John D. Rockefeller, widely considered the wealthiest American of all time and the richest person in modern history, starting working at age 16 as an accountant. The program offers three tracks. You will choose one of the following:

  • Financial accounting: This is the track if you want to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Marine Affairs is an interdisciplinary field that studies the relationships between humans and the marine environment with the goal of achieving sustainability of marine resources, as well as social and environmental justice.

Marine Affairs professionals work to develop better policies and management strategies to address the many complex issues related to human uses of the world’s coasts and oceans. Examples of some of the major issues we are currently facing include natural resource decline, pollution, climate change, impacts of coastal development, among others.

When you pursue a career in Marine Affairs, you will play an integral role in finding better ways to educate and inform the public about these issues and potential solutions.

You'll be prepared to pursue a career with a variety of entities, including government agencies that oversee the management of marine resources (e.g. NOAA and EPA or state and local agencies), as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) interested in creating solutions for the sustainable use of the marine and coastal resources and educating the public about these issues.

You'll also have opportunities with international organizations dedicated to preserving the environment or academic institutions, where you can teach and do research to inform better policies.

The objective of the Master of Science in Accounting program is to provide an in-depth framework for artificial intelligence (AI)/analytics, corporate, forensic, and taxation accounting inquiry, devised in structure and content from the entire scope and process of accounting-information-based economic decision-making. The existence of such a framework is intended to provide graduate accountants and professional practitioners with an opportunity to share in the development and assessment of issues of accounting interest within a decision-making context. Additionally, the Master of Science in Accounting program is designed to provide non-accountants and practitioners with the accounting credits requisite for certification.
