Overview
One of only a small number of such programs in the United States, our master’s program in fire and explosion investigation offers 39 credits* of interdisciplinary coursework in fire/arson investigation, emergency management, public safety, and more. Students in the program study alongside leading professionals in the fire service including current and former fire and police chiefs, homeland security executives, private investigators, and insurance agents. Successful alumni have moved on to leadership positions in local fire departments, state and federal emergency agencies, and private firms.
Students take required courses in topics such as the chemistry of fires, dynamics of structural fires, and arson analysis. Candidates will also chose from a series of electives that explores issues, including fire and building codes, fire scene reconstruction, terrorism, and industrial fire protection.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Bachelor of Arts in Communication with Concentration in Public Relations and Digital Media
Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and digital media will build specialized knowledge and skills related to public relations across a variety of platforms and contexts in addition to acquiring a solid grounding in digital media production. Through coursework emphasizing writing, campaigns, and persuasion, as well as laboratory and field experiences in digital media design and production along with internship opportunities, students will learn to become competent and well-rounded public relations professionals.
Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and digital media are required to complete a total of 121 credits as follows.

Candidates are required to complete a minimum of 36 credits of graduate work, which may include an internship in national security. Transfer credit from other institutions may be permitted subject to the Graduate School policy on transfer credit detailed elsewhere in this catalog.
Students in the program are required to complete 18 credits of core courses and 18 credits of general electives. Students must complete a capstone requirement of either NSPS 6693 - National Security Internship I or NSPS 6697 Thesis I and NSPS 6698 Thesis II. If the six credit thesis option is selected, NSPS 6698 will count toward electives.

The University of New Haven offers one of the oldest graduate programs in community psychology in the country. For more than 40 years, we have successfully prepared graduates for professional careers in mental health and related human services fields.
We provide a distinctive applied psychology education. We offer three program concentrations – community-clinical services, program development, or forensic psychology – that enable our students to tailor the curriculum to meet their individual needs and professional goals.

In response to these needs, the management program seeks to provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to obtain and advance in professional managerial positions in both domestic and international corporations.
The Department of Management offers both a B.S. in Business Management and a B.S. in International Business - Management. The department also offers a diverse set of concentrations and minors. Marine Affairs is an interdisciplinary field that studies the relationships between humans and the marine environment with the goal of achieving sustainability of marine resources, as well as social and environmental justice.
Marine Affairs professionals work to develop better policies and management strategies to address the many complex issues related to human uses of the world’s coasts and oceans. Examples of some of the major issues we are currently facing include natural resource decline, pollution, climate change, impacts of coastal development, among others.
When you pursue a career in Marine Affairs, you will play an integral role in finding better ways to educate and inform the public about these issues and potential solutions.

Master of Science in Sport Management with Concentration in Collegiate Athletic Administration
A total of 30-36 credits are required for completion of the master of science in Sport Management (depending on the choice of concentration). The program is made up of a Sport Management core that is common to each of the concentrations (consisting of six Sport Management courses) and a set of concentration courses (consisting of between four and six courses tailored to that particular segment of the Sport Management discipline).
The M.S. in Sport Management with a concentration in Collegiate Athletic Administration (30 credits) is a focused degree designed to provide an understanding of the management of college athletic departments/programs.
