Overview

Candidates are required to complete a minimum of 36 credits of graduate work, which may include an internship in national security. Transfer credit from other institutions may be permitted subject to the Graduate School policy on transfer credit detailed elsewhere in this catalog.

Students in the program are required to complete 18 credits of core courses and 18 credits of general electives.  Students must complete a capstone requirement of either NSPS 6693 - National Security Internship I or NSPS 6697 Thesis I and  NSPS 6698 Thesis II. If the six credit thesis option is selected, NSPS 6698  Thesis II will count toward electives.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

In the University of New Haven’s ABET-accredited B.S. in Mechanical Engineering program you will join that long line of pioneers, using your skills to design, analyze, improve, and test the products and systems that are essential to everyday life -- and to create those that don’t yet exist.

Our program is a great choice for those who’ve recently completed an undergraduate degree or who are looking to continue their education straight out of college. The program’s schedule allows for students to complete the program in as few as 12 months for those who meet the criteria to waive the three business foundation courses, and carry a 12-credit hour load. Students who do not meet the waiver criteria may complete the program in less than two years.

 Marketing and Digital Marketing

This concentration provides students with the technical skills to use digital analytics and managerial prowess to strategically implement marketing decisions related to business operations. It provides the tools necessary to collect, identify, and understand patterns that allow the organization to make informed data-driven decisions regarding the consumer economy. These skills are especially relevant with the continued growth of Big Data and the increasingly sophisticated computing techniques used to mine it. The B.S. degree in business analytics prepares students for careers that use data to support and inform business decision-making and management. Students learn skills in a natural progression including assembling and managing data, displaying data, uncovering patterns in data, developing predictive models, and using these models to make better decisions across all business domains. Business analytics skills are in demand across a wide range of industries including healthcare, sports, marketing, finance, consulting, supply-chain operations, and information technology. Students are encouraged to develop expertise in a functional business discipline such as supply-chain management, health care management, marketing or finance using elective coursework.

The sport management concentration teaches students to utilize their quantitative analytical skills to make informed and accurate decisions in the sport management sphere.

Recording studios, theaters, social media platforms, film and television production, stadiums, and game studios rely on the competencies of sound engineers in order to function. Contemporary compositions for pop stars, film scores, and orchestras are also facilitated by the expanded capabilities of the latest musical interfaces.

Our Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs in Music and Sound Recording are based on the philosophy that musicians should have technical skills and sound recordists should know the art form they are recording. To this end, our students take courses in three interrelated areas: 1) music history, theory, and aesthetics; 2) sound recording methodology and technique; 3) musicianship.

Professional Guidance

A degree in Music and Sound Recording focuses on the craft and art of working with sound. Our professors are former and current engineers, producers, and composers with professional expertise that informs our curriculum. In combination with courses from the Tagliatela College of Engineering, students receive foundational skills in the generation and manipulation of sound and apply those skills in various ways.

We also believe that these competencies are best applied with an understanding of how music and sound function in the world. Computer engineering is concerned with design and implementation of digital systems such as computer systems, computer-based control systems, interfaces between digital and analog systems, interfaces between hardware and software, and control software for embedded computer systems. This program spans the disciplines of both electrical engineering and computer science, and can be described as bridging the area between the two.

Computers are used in almost every device or system manufactured today, from large multicomputer systems to cell phones and credit card reading devices. In addition, they are used in signal processing applications, speech recognition, medical imaging, and picture and data communication. The Internet is possible in part because of advances made in computing machines and data communications by people working in the capacity of computer engineers. Careers for computer engineers are found in all phases of the production of these devices and systems, from design, manufacturing, and maintenance to marketing and sales.

Recognizing the changing trend in engineering education, the Computer Engineering program has adopted a multidisciplinary approach for teaching and learning by incorporating a series of newly developed project-oriented courses based on the spiral curriculum

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in film production and media entrepreneurship will build the knowledge and skills related to film production in addition to a solid grounding in communication entrepreneurial fundamentals.  Through coursework emphasizing writing, production, and distribution, as well as laboratory and available internship opportunities, students will learn to become competent and well-rounded film production professionals.

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in film production and media entrepreneurship are required to complete a total of 121 credits as follows.

Within each program option described above, students may concentrate in industrial-human resources, organizational development, or conflict management. A concentration requires 12 credits of electives, which are counted as part of the 21 credits required in the elective option (Thesis, Internship/Practicum, or Approved Electives) selected by the student. If a concentration is selected, the student must notify the program coordinator as well as the Registrar. A concentration is not required if the student’s educational or career goals can best be met without this specialization.

Program Outcomes:

  • Students will master theory and techniques related to core areas of industrial-organizational psychology including talent identification and development, work motivation, training, human capital practices, organization and group behavior.
  • Students will learn how to employ the knowledge gained through their classes to the workplace through supervised experiential learning opportunities such as internships, practicum, case studies, and applied research projects.
  • Students will conduct applied organizational research and interpret research used to make business decisions.

A total of 45 credits is required of candidates for the master of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology. Candidates for this degree must complete 24 credits of basic program requirements. Another 21 credits (including concentrations, program options, and electives) are chosen after consultation with the program coordinator in light of the student’s academic and professional goals. Students may not complete more than nine credits of electives until they have satisfied the basic requirements. Up to nine credits of electives may be taken in other departments, such as industrial engineering, economics, management, marketing, and public administration.
