Students who enter UWM with advanced French can earn both a bachelor’s and master’s in 5 years to become a translator/interpreter.

Fluency in French can provide a career advantage in all types of professions including business, medicine, law, the arts, politics, government work, and more. The country of France is a leader in science and high-tech, architecture, fashion, and cuisine, making French fluency valuable in these industries as well.

 At UWM, language students receive an education in not just language fluency but also in the culture surrounding that language. Context matters in communication, and we believe it is important for students to understand the history, literature, and customs of native speakers of French in order to successfully apply their fluency.

Human resource (HR) managers play an essential and strategic role in helping organizations recruit, train and retain an effective workforce. HR managers understand people and help organizations create an inclusive and productive workforce by providing performance and talent management systems; offering training, career development and work-life programs; and by creating effective compensation and benefits packages. HR managers also help organizations develop effective leaders and teams and proactively work with top-management to build inclusive and positive organizational cultures. Effective HR managers are skilled in interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, diversity management, and perspective-taking.

This concentration is designed for the music student who wishes to concentrate primarily on the major performing skill.

Applicant proposing concentration in Music Performance Vocal Emphasis must demonstrate outstanding performance skills. An on-site audition is required; in extreme cases, recorded examples of an applicant’s performance may be accepted in lieu of an in-person audition. Applicant should contact faculty in the appropriate performance area to inquire about specific audition repertoire and procedures.

The Department of Anthropology offers programs of graduate study designed to provide a broad background in all significant facets of the discipline—biological as well as cultural, analytic as well as descriptive—while still encouraging specialization. It provides training both for students interested in an academic career in anthropology and for those concerned with practical issues approached from the integrative perspective of anthropology.

The department, in cooperation with the Milwaukee Public Museum, also offers a program leading to a Certificate in Museum Studies. The Milwaukee Public Museum, the fourth largest natural history museum in the country, is the site for methods courses that provide the student practical experience in museum work and for courses in the history and theory of museum exhibits. Each student’s program of studies includes training in anthropological theory and methods, issues and problems in cultural anthropology, archaeology, anthropological linguistics and physical anthropology, as well as topics that focus on the student’s area of particular interest.

The Lubar School of Business STEM-Designated Master of Business Administration (MBA) provides the specialized business skills needed to meet an individual's career goals. Lubar offers a major metropolitan learning laboratory where dynamic individuals, applied project work, and superb business connections translate into a rewarding life-long career.

Faculty are connected to leading-edge business knowledge using real-world business challenges. There is an emphasis on critical and analytical thinking, collaboration with fellow students, and networking with successful executives and professional inside and outside the classroom.

The MS in Computer Science program is a rigorous graduate program designed to meet the needs of any student wishing to gain advanced understanding of the principles and practices needed to harness the power of computing to help society and the world.  The program can be a stepping stone on the way to further studies and the pursuit of advanced research, such as can be obtained by pursuing the PhD. Or the program can provide a pathway to professional advancement through greater technical knowledge and intellectual maturity.

The BFA in Music: Collaborative Piano curriculum is one of few such undergraduate programs offered nationwide. It offers training for pianists anticipating careers in vocal accompanying, as well as coaching art song, opera, and musical theatre. Students receive weekly lessons in collaborative piano, as well as solo piano, and piano technique, and participate in rehearsals and performances for the UWM Opera Theatre, Milwaukee Opera Theatre, and UWM choirs.

The Department of Biological Sciences offers graduate programs in biology with areas of concentration in botany; microbiology; cellular and molecular biology; genetics; physiology and morphology of plants and animals; terrestrial and aquatic ecology; behavioral biology; conservation biology; and evolution.

Both a thesis and non-thesis track are offered within the MS degree. The thesis track is a research-based degree and is intended for students pursuing careers in formal research or planning to continue study towards the PhD degree. The non-thesis track is a coursework-intensive MS degree designed for students desiring a graduate education to enhance employment opportunities or prior to obtaining a professional degree. Students may switch from the non-thesis track to the thesis track if all requirements are met and with written approval of the student’s advisor and the Graduate Program Director.

The Master of Science in Engineering program is a flexible program designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of students. The program can be a stepping-stone on the way to further studies and the pursuit of advanced research, such as can be obtained by pursuing the PhD. Or the program can provide a pathway to professional advancement through greater technical knowledge and intellectual maturity. The student, with the help and approval of a major advisor, can choose from a wide range of courses from throughout the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), and where appropriate, from other schools and colleges.

Centered on the study and use of digital technologies in direct relation to traditional visual art, our students combine interactive and electronic media with a secondary established focus (such as Ceramics, Fibers, Design etc.) to create new forms of art.
