A degree in economics provides you with a solid foundation for a career in business, government, or nonprofit sector. Economists are vital in helping predict and study responses to changes in policy and the market and our program boasts a placement rate or nearly 100 percent in occupations requiring a master’s degree. You will study research methods and how social factors influence and shape our economy and apply those analytical skills to working in business, government, and nonprofit sectors.

This program develops professional economists who can solve contemporary problems with a unique skill set created by a curriculum that bridges the gap between research and the application of research. Our curriculum stresses applied research using traditional and nontraditional methods and takes advantage of our faculty’s diverse teaching and research activities. You are encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem solving while building the skills to work in business, government, and nonprofit sectors or continue your education.

Program Outcomes
If you complete this program, you will graduate with a Master of Science in Social and Applied Economics. This graduate program equips you to solve contemporary economic problems with a unique set of skills created by a curriculum that combines applied economics with social economics. This program bridges the gap between research and the application of research in business, government, and nonprofit sectors. Study from a social scientific perspective how humans create, transmit, receive, and respond to messages. The communication studies program will help you better understand intrapersonal and interpersonal communication. The mass communication program shapens your skills in mediated processes and effects, social media, digital media, and other multimedia processes. Your intellectual, organizational, and social abilities will increase through our new curriculum. These abilities can be applied to a variety of contexts, including interpersonal, organizational, and mediated settings. Your courses will underscore real-world experiences with theoretical frameworks. Your ability to critically think about the world around you cannot be overemphasized. We strive to help you participate in a democratic society as an informed and civically engaged citizen and demonstrate global and multicultural competence.

The mathematics component of the Bachelor of Arts program surveys the classical areas of mathematics—analysis, algebra, and geometry—and their history. Courses in statistics and in computer science provide a taste of two relatively young branches of the mathematical sciences. In addition, a broad choice of electives allows you to either pursue greater depth in one of these areas, or to sample a broader range of courses in mathematics, statistics, and computing.

The Bachelor of Arts program features breadth and flexibility. For instance, there is a Related Course Requirement specifically designed to accommodate subject matter outside the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and even outside both the College of Science and Mathematics and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The Bachelor of Arts degree in music is designed for students who want to study music but do not necessarily plan a professional career in music. Students will get a much broader, more general education than students seeking a Bachelor of Music degree. Required courses are kept to a minimum. Consequently, students must work closely with an advisor in selecting course electives. For graduation, students must complete level III in the applied music concentration.

You can harness the power of music and its ability to express and communicate while studying music at Wright State. You will develop knowledge, technical skill, and the use of technology in our multifaceted curriculum. After graduation, pursue a career as a performer, composer, arranger, teacher, cultural administrator, or community leader. Graduates of Wright State’s music programs have proven successful in all of these fields.

Advanced Studies is a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree program that is available for currently licensed teachers who want in-depth study in a particular area of interest. This program offers a flexible option for highly motivated individuals who are seeking advanced study with specific professional objectives, such as expanding knowledge or skills in a specified area, and/or who are seeking to earn an endorsement, along with the Master’s degree.

Program Outcomes

Students completing the program will be able to:

• Communicate a sophisticated knowledge of history and disseminate it to the general public through completion of thesis projects, Public History capstone projects, Public History conferences, and other presentations and exhibits.
• Encourage others to explore and understand the historical context of their lives through public contact in societies, historical organizations, community and social groups, local and regional schools, History Day, and in museums and archives.
• Develop their own appreciation and knowledge of history through contact and networking with other historians (through the department, alumni, and professional organizations), and through a continued quest for knowledge by readings and primary research. 
• Be prepared to matriculate into Ph.D. programs or to advance their careers in secondary education. Graduates in the Public History plan will be qualified to obtain employment in historical organizations, corporations, government, non-profits, archives, libraries, or museums.

Studying one of the modern languages at Wright State will help you improve your ability to read, write, and speak in another language, study how that language is used in a social context, and become a more enlightened citizen. You will also learn about the history, politics, culture, media, and literature of your chosen country and study their economic and educational systems.

New technologies have increased global opportunities, and studying a modern language prepares you to work with people all over the world. Government and non-governmental agencies have discovered a critical need for college graduates with foreign language skills.

Management focuses on getting things done. Managers directly support the efforts of other people in business and organizations, including planning, organizing, leading, and controlling activities. Managers focus on achieving the goals of the business or organization while being accountable for performance results.

High-performing managers are good at building working relationships with others. They help co-workers and employees develop skills, foster teamwork, and create a work environment both satisfying for employees while pursuing the business or organization’s goals. Many of our management majors also double major in human resource management or complete the certificate in human resources.

Program Outcomes
When you complete the program, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business with a major in management. The first two years of the program ground students in the essential, concrete skills needed as business students while the final two years focus on management skills.

The MS in Marketing Analytics and Insights (MS MAI) program is designed to provide graduate students with a strong base in marketing strategy, consumer behavior, and especially marketing analysis and insights. The program will provide students with the fundamental skills and tools to extract and analyze marketing data, and the opportunity to generate real-world interpretation, insights, and recommendations.

Program Outcomes

• Knowledge of the strategic role of marketing in organizations, including the key role of a marketing plan;
• Understanding of influences on consumer attitudes, beliefs, and, most importantly, their actions and decision processes;
• Ability to analyze marketing and financial data, formulate strategies and implement decisions;
• Ability to design a research study, collect data, and analyze data by using focus groups, primary data, secondary data and web data;
• Awareness of online marketing methods and how to use hands-on tools to increase meaningful web traffic;
• Hands-on, computer-based experience with marketing analytical tools to generate insights and marketing decisions that create value and build competitive advantage;
• Ability to apply “big data” analytic methodologies such as predictive analytics, data mining, text and other big data related technologies;
• Experience working with a real dataset to conduct a thorough data analysis, yielding insightful interpretations and proposed recommendations suitable for a business.

Our undergraduate program offers a rigorous, challenging, and intellectually stimulating experience. You will simultaneously explore a subject you love while developing the kinds of universal skills employers seek—written and spoken communication, analytical and problem solving skills, and research experience. This prepares you for a wide variety of careers. Our graduates have gone on to start their own businesses, work in small and large corporations, pursue advanced professional training in the law, receive a commission as an officer in the United States armed forces, and serve the public in local, state, and federal agencies.

The Master of  Organizational Studies comprises the core courses for the current Organizational Studies Educational Doctorate (Ed.D.) program. Students who are admitted into the Organizational Studies Ed.D. program will receive the M.S. in Organizational Studies once they have satisfactorily completed the Ed.D. program core courses, which includes the internship. The M.S. degree will permit all students to receive the master’s degree. The core courses provide an interdisciplinary approach to the study of topics, theories, and research critical to the success of leaders in a variety of organizational settings. These courses reflect a scholar-practitioner oriented program for working professionals, grounded in systems theory, adaptive leadership change, decision making, structure, personnel roles and functions, external relations, planning, program evaluation, and organization theory. The program is for those working in community, government, public service, business, non-profit, and education organizations.

Program Outcomes
The focus of the master’s program is to develop scholar-practitioners committed to exploring and expanding research related to the practice and processes in organizations. Graduates will deepen their understandings related to leadership and change within organizations. The participants will gain the knowledge and skills to conduct robust research, to strengthen practices in organizations, and to establish networks for education, psychology, urban affairs, and health and human services, to name a few. The following six principles (Fullan, 2005) form the conceptual framework of the proposed program:
