Program Outcomes
In this program, you will get a broad education in core business skills such as accounting, finance, marketing, management, and operations management along with emphasizing business and organizational studies and information systems technology. You will study business systems analysis, business system design, and computer programming. You will also focus on developing, implementing, and maintaining information systems in a variety of organizational environments. Coursework includes information system design, development methodologies, database management systems, electronic business, and data communications.

Computer scientists do not just design software for computers. They work with the software and software systems that allow the day-to-day use of any computing system. Concepts and theory are the focus of this major.

Students who complete the B.S. in computer science will have an ability to:

Study from a social scientific perspective how humans create, transmit, receive, and respond to messages. The communication studies program will help you better understand intrapersonal and interpersonal communication. The mass communication program shapens your skills in mediated processes and effects, social media, digital media, and other multimedia processes. Your intellectual, organizational, and social abilities will increase through our new curriculum. These abilities can be applied to a variety of contexts, including interpersonal, organizational, and mediated settings. Your courses will underscore real-world experiences with theoretical frameworks. Your ability to critically think about the world around you cannot be overemphasized. We strive to help you participate in a democratic society as an informed and civically engaged citizen and demonstrate global and multicultural competence.

The B.S. in physics degree is designed for students who wish to gain a strong foundation in experimental and theoretical physics along with a solid background in mathematics that wish to pursue graduate school in physics or a related field, such as engineering, or directly enter the workforce and a career in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) related field.

Philosophy is worth studying because, as Socrates is credited with saying, the unexamined life is not worth living. By challenging you to analyze concepts clearly and evaluate evidence and arguments critically, philosophy hones your analytical reasoning skills, stimulates your intellectual creativity, and enriches your understanding of yourself, others, and the world. It makes your life more intellectually interesting and rewarding.

The urban affairs major is right for you if you want to make communities better places to live, if you want to fix problems such as vacant housing, decaying infrastructure, access to healthy food, ensuring safe neighborhoods, reducing homelessness, city planning, economic development, and equal education and job opportunities for future generations.

The Urban Affairs program provides students with an appreciation of the urban environment as a complex system and teaches them to approach urban processes from multiple perspectives. The Bachelor of Arts degree places emphasis on the qualitative aspects of public service management. In contrast, the Bachelor of Science degree emphasizes quantitative data analysis.

Statistics is distinct from mathematics as a field of study, yet is founded upon the theory of probability—the mathematics of chance. The Bachelor of Science in Statistics is a degree program emphasizing statistics both as a science unto itself and as a service science, with powerful applications in such disciplines as biology, medicine, sociology, chemistry, agriculture, education, engineering, economics, psychology, and quality control. Graduate from this program, and you should be well qualified for employment in the many corporations and government agencies for which statisticians design experiments, conduct surveys, and analyze data. Also, the Bachelor of Science in Statistics prepares you for graduate study in statistics (or in a science in which statistics plays a decisive role), after which you will have even greater employment possibilities.

The Master of Science program, leading to the M.S. degree, gives the student a broad base of fundamental theory and concentrated study in a particular area of specialization. This program is designed for the student who either desires a career in industry or government or wants to pursue further graduate study. Each student does experimental or theoretical research in an area of interest and writes a thesis.

The Master of Humanities program offers a unique, flexible, interdisciplinary opportunity for graduate study, whether you are a traditional or non-traditional student.

You will explore questions from diverse perspectives rather than concentrate your study within a single discipline. Your program of study might focus on a historical period, a cultural region, or a social or artistic theme, and may combine, for example, ancient and modern cultures, literature and politics, philosophy and art, or history and religion.

The program is flexible because you design, in consultation with the director, your integrated individualized curriculum, pursue full-time or part-time study, and attend evening or day classes.
