African and African American Studies (AAFS) is an innovative interdisciplinary program in the College of Liberal Arts that offers you the opportunity to explore the experiences of people in Africa and the African Diaspora (the spread of people of African descent throughout the world), including the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Asia. The mission of the AAFS program is to provide you with a rigorous education that will enable you to become a productive citizen committed to using your learning to better understand the world you live in and also find ways to improve it.

You will investigate the culture and contributions of Africans and African Americans to world civilizations and cultures. You will also be able to develop a global view, essential for living in an increasingly diverse society.

The mathematics component of the Bachelor of Arts program surveys the classical areas of mathematics—analysis, algebra, and geometry—and their history. Courses in statistics and in computer science provide a taste of two relatively young branches of the mathematical sciences. In addition, a broad choice of electives allows you to either pursue greater depth in one of these areas, or to sample a broader range of courses in mathematics, statistics, and computing.

The Bachelor of Arts program features breadth and flexibility. For instance, there is a Related Course Requirement specifically designed to accommodate subject matter outside the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and even outside both the College of Science and Mathematics and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The honors program in the Department of Art and Art History is designed to give students with outstanding academic ability and superior accomplishments in art history the opportunity to complete a program that encourages and recognizes their distinguished efforts. These students may earn an honors degree by completing the departmental major requirements, maintaining a high academic record, and successfully completing a senior honors project. Students are usually admitted to the program during their junior year. Interested students can obtain information on the honors program from the Department of Art and Art History office.

• Have integrated drawing skills into their aesthetic sensibility.
• Demonstrate an acquaintance with the materials and procedures of four of the studio disciplines taught at Wright State.
• Show appropriate levels of proficiency in several of the studio disciplines

People are the most important resource of an organization. Human resource management is about people. Human resource management focuses on the people and the activities of organizations that affect the behaviors of its employees. Managers and employees knowledgeable in human resource topics are critical to ensuring organizations and businesses attract, motivate, and retain a qualified, effective workforce.

The human resource management major provides advanced training if you are seeking upper-level human resources positions. Advanced human resource professionals are detail-oriented, have excellent people skills, and strong social and emotional awareness. As a professional, you create an environment that is inviting and empowering while ensuring your employer meets all legal and compliance procedures. Many of our human resource management students also double major in management, acquiring additional skills in leadership, team, and organization development.

Sociology is concerned with social relations:

• How people relate to each other as individuals, in families, and in other groups
• How they interact within various social institutions, including the workforce and government
• How their behavior is judged socially acceptable or deviant by others

The Bachelor of Arts Program in sociology trains you to observe and analyze social interactions, predict likely outcomes, and determine how we can develop programs
for the good of individuals and society.

To help prepare for future work and service, you will be required to take five or more upper-level courses designed to develop your writing and critical thinking skills.

The objectives of the Public Health degree center around programmatic learning goals and core skills that not only provide an in-depth science education but aid students in developing skills necessary for future careers. These include:

• Students will be able to differentiate and define of structures and objectives of public health, including the history and philosophy of public health, key achievements, and explain the organization of the U.S. public health system and across the glo
• Students will demonstrate comprehension of a foundational science education including epidemiology, health and disease, social and behavioral sciences, biological and life sciences, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, statistics, and scientific writing.
•  Students will demonstrate comprehension of community health, humanities, ethics, leadership, and effective health communication.
• Students will apply leadership, communication skills, and community and public health knowledge through experiential learning activities including internships, service-learning projects, capstone senior seminars, research papers, honors theses, or other scholarly, cumulative, and integrative applied experiences to support academic and career goals.
• Students will design an academic plan for graduation and identify, write, and describe a plan for professional success in their career path.
• Students will demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and relate public health information to diverse audiences.
• Students will apply critical thinking through independent learning and collaborations with colleagues, peers, and community members and identify, evaluate, and synthesize public health information.

The Council on Social Work Education has accredited this program since 1974, assuring you that the curriculum and faculty meet established national standards. Qualified graduates of the bachelor's program are eligible for examinations to achieve advanced standing in master's degree programs. Those who qualify for dual-credit consideration could complete their master's degree in as little as one academic year.

The Department of Human Services’ programs share a common curriculum of courses associated with five different counseling concentrations. Students may choose to obtain a M.S. degree in counseling with a specialization in clinical mental health counseling; business and organizational management counseling; and marriage and family counseling; or students may choose to obtain either a M.R.C. degree with a specialization in severe disabilities or chemical dependency, or a M.Ed. in school counseling.

Students entering the Human Services Department must complete a program of study that includes a general core curriculum and requirements specific for their area of concentration. Students plan their program of study in consultation with their faculty advisor, and elective courses may be chosen as appropriate.

Students must pass a comprehensive examination at the conclusion of their plan of study, in some cases a professional licensure test or certification may be used to fulfill this requirement.

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) has conferred specialty accreditation to the following program areas in the department: clinical mental health counseling, and school counseling (M.Ed.). The Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) has accredited both rehabilitation counseling programs: severe disabilities and chemical dependency.

The program in selected studies allows students to pursue a self-designed course of study. It is intended for students with a definite educational objective that is not met by the majors presently offered by the College of Liberal Arts. While the program is free from several traditional requirements, students must meet other requirements and procedures to obtain the degree.

Students are eligible for the program after they complete 33 credit hours. With the help of program sponsors, students formulate a contract outlining their study goals and reserving at least 32 credit hours for courses that help accomplish those goals. The contract is evaluated and approved by the program committee.

The Greek major allows students to focus primarily on the study of Greek language, literature, and culture. Students are required to take 7 semesters of Greek language. Additional electives cover courses in a diverse range of subjects relating to the study of the Classical world.
