The Bachelor of Arts in physics degree is designed for students who wish to couple a solid foundation in physics to a non-technical and creative arts field, such as writing, philosophy, political science, or other College of Liberal Arts majors. Likewise, students can obtain technical background in physics along with obtaining a background in business for those interested in business development opportunities.

The Department of Physics offers programs leading either to a Bachelor of Science degree or a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics. Students in secondary education may earn the Bachelor of Arts degree in physics and enter the Professional Year Experience program of the College of Education and Human Services for licensure in physics.

Program Outcomes
The marketing program prepares you to work in both business-to-business and business-to-consumer organization. You will learn about the motivations and behaviors and motivations of consumers, how to impact those behaviors, and how to satisfy your costumers sustainably. Learn to create, communicate, and sell, with a thorough foundation in global issues, digital technologies, and data insights. We will teach you how to apply the marketing concepts and planning taught in the classroom in real-world situations.

The mathematics component of the Bachelor of Arts program surveys the classical areas of mathematics—analysis, algebra, and geometry—and their history. Courses in statistics and in computer science provide a taste of two relatively young branches of the mathematical sciences. In addition, a broad choice of electives allows you to either pursue greater depth in one of these areas, or to sample a broader range of courses in mathematics, statistics, and computing.

The Bachelor of Arts program features breadth and flexibility. For instance, there is a Related Course Requirement specifically designed to accommodate subject matter outside the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and even outside both the College of Science and Mathematics and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Industrial and Human Factors Engineering (IHE), a highly customizable degree in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, prepares working professionals towards effective design and operation of a variety of systems in healthcare, manufacturing, aerospace, distribution, retail, and many others. While industrial engineers utilize the tools of simulation, optimization, computing, and statistics to design and improve modern technology-laden systems, human factors engineers design systems that effectively integrate human abilities/limitations and machines/tools.

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics is Wright State University's standard college mathematics program. Select this program if you wish to study mathematics per se, rather than statistics, computing, or applications of mathematics.It may also be the program you choose if you intend to pursue mathematics (or closely related disciplines) at the graduate level. If you wish to prepare for entry into the job market, you can do so in this program by wisely choosing among the many available electives.

Modern mathematics has several major branches. The three most commonly studied by undergraduate mathematics majors are algebra, geometry and topology, and analysis. Well-prepared freshmen will have sampled parts of the first two of these in high school algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. In college, mathematics majors encounter the beginning topic in the third branch—analysis—in their calculus classes.

The Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience was developed by an interdisciplinary team of Wright State University faculty, and emphasizes how physics, biology, chemistry, psychology, and mathematics are integrated to become the field of neuroscience. Courses are designed so that the majority of the time, students are doing rather than listening. The program’s coursework focuses on the cell biology and physiology of neurons and neuronal circuits. It includes training in research techniques, and opportunities to assist faculty with their research. Students will be competitively prepared for health-related preprofessional programs, scientific research, and other career paths.

Program Learning Goals and Skills

The Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience program is focused on in-depth neuroscience content knowledge centered around four main learning goals:

    Organization – There is an expansive, yet repetitive, organization to the nervous system, that matches structure with function.
    Cellular Neurophysiology – Neurons are cells with dynamic and excitable membranes. Specialized receptors and channels underlie all chemical and electrical signals in the nervous system.
    Information Processing – The effectiveness of communication between neurons is highly modifiable and is critical for regulating the flow of information within neural networks. Information is also encoded in the timing of signals.
    Neural Networks and Behavior – The average adult brain contains approximately 100 billion neurons with 100 trillion connections, that make a multitude of connections with each other in an organized fashion. This connectivity serves as the link between structure and function, dictating our behavioral responses to various innocuous and traumatic stimuli.

The Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (BTAS) is a completion degree offered through the Lake Campus of Wright State University. It is intended for students who have already completed a two-year degree program or equivalent from an accredited community college, regional campus or technical college, and who wish to pursue a baccalaureate degree. The program(s) of study provides students with knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for advancement in their chosen careers, and integrates technical skills developed within applied associate degree programs with professional skills intrinsic in a bachelor’s degree program.

Learning Outcomes

• Students will demonstrate effective written, oral, and digital communication skills
• Students will apply skills to solve problems and deal with challenging situations in an organizational setting.
• Students will develop competencies associated with ethics and social responsibility.

You will study feminist activism and theory related to women and other marginalized groups within a multicultural and global context, including experience and identity related to gender and sexuality. You will gain excellent written and oral communication skills, research skills, and strong critical thinking skills. You can go on to work in a variety of fields including psychology, health, education, nonprofits, and other organizations and businesses.

You can earn a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with a concentration in art and art history through Wright State's Department of Art and Art History. The B.A. is for you if you wish to combine a liberal arts education with studies in art. You can also pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree with concentrations in painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture, if you have decided to pursue a more intense and professional program in studio art.

B.F.A. degrees can be combined with an art education component or allow you to supplement your Fine Arts education with a Graphic Arts certificate from Wright State's Lake Campus. The Graphic Arts Certificate is designed for the art student interested in supplementing the curriculum with graphics-based technology courses. It will increase their knowledge and career potential in a variety of art-related fields. Students will gain hands-on experience through a variety of digital graphics-based software programs. Students may also pursue certificates in graphic design or interior design from Sinclair Community College.

Many graduates of these programs are successful applicants to graduate programs in fine and applied arts and education. Because self-expression and self-learning are the ultimate goals of the B.F.A. program, you are largely responsible for determining the options that best meet your needs and interests.
