Second Year at UNSW Sydney
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
Engineers develop practical solutions to technical and environmental problems by using science and mathematics. Through scientific discoveries engineers meet societal and consumer needs.

Engineers work in a range of roles across all different types of industries, from civil engineering to environmental, computer science to petroleum engineering – the possibilities are endless. The type of engineer you’ll become often depends on the specialisation you choose in this degree. This degree offers 19 engineering specialisations across different engineering disciplines.

In this degree you’ll gain a solid background in mathematics, natural sciences and computing that’ll prepare you to learn knowledge and skills in an engineering discipline. You’ll graduate with the technical knowledge, skills and attributes required to succeed as a professional engineer.

Mechatronic Engineering (Major)
Mechatronic engineers are involved in creating smart machines and autonomous systems, such as robots, self-operating cars and automated industrial machines. This evolving industry also covers software development to control sophisticated machinery. Understanding the conception process, design, construction, maintenance and integration of smart machinery and systems is integral to working as a mechatronic engineer, and can lead you to a career in industries such as manufacturing, automotive, mining, cargo handling and agriculture.

Computer Science is the study of the design, construction and use of computer systems. When you complete a Bachelor of Computer Science at UNSW, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge required for computer applications to be developed.

Working with both hardware and software, this undergraduate degree teaches the basic principles behind computing tools, operating systems, compilers and translators, and computer hardware.
The Bachelor of Computer Science also focuses on the representation of data and data structures in computer systems and the design of algorithms for automatic manipulation of this information by programming languages and machine systems.

Ecommerce Systems (Major)
Providing the IT infrastructure for developing and managing enterprise applications, typical ecommerce systems deal with both B2C (business-to-customer) and B2B (business-to-business). They include e-government, e-banking and e-health. ecommerce systems engineering requires understanding the requirements of business processes – security, public policy, project management – and the effective use of the IT infrastructure.
