Microbiology is an essential science that helps us understand the microbes in the environment, including microbes that dwell in the soil, air and water, in our food and inside people, animals and plants. Microbiology can impact on many different areas, such as:

• Agriculture, where rumen microbes are both essential to dairy and good industries, but also responsible for much of New Zealand’s carbon emission;
• Bioprotection, where efforts to preserve native birds (kiwi) and plants (kauri trees) depend on expert control of microbial pathogens
• Microbes have applications as model systems to answer questions beyond the immediate range of microbiology, such as the causes of cancer or birth defects;
• Green and bio-based technologies, where microbes help preserve our environment by producing bio-based materials for use in diagnostics and vaccines or by harnessing solar energy for fuel production.

Massey’s Bachelor of Agribusiness (Rural Valuation) will help you build the skills you need to have a successful career in today’s rural property market. Whether it’s a dairy farm sale, estimation of orchard capital value, or getting a bank loan to purchase a new farm, almost every financial transaction involving land requires a valuation to support it. You’ll learn about land-based systems and agribusiness. You’ll gain specialist valuation knowledge preparing you for opportunities in the rural property industry.

Massey University's Bachelor of Business (Property) will give you an introduction to a wide range of professional skills relevant to the industry. These include property development, management, valuation, finance, investment and economics. You will learn the communication skills you’ll need to operate within the industry and to work effectively with clients. The program is structured to allow for specialisation while preparing you for an interesting and rewarding career in a variety of property positions.

The Graduate Diploma in Arts (Economics) will give you the equivalent of an undergraduate major in economics without completing a second bachelor’s degree. The Graduate Diploma in Arts (Economics) is a bridging tool for graduates in other subjects to get the equivalent of a major in economics. You can then apply for a postgraduate qualification in economics if you wish.

The Bachelor of Information Sciences information technology major will combine your love of problem-solving, teamwork and technology with the core skills needed to analyse, design, build and manage a huge range of IT systems, projects and resources. Our personal lives are becoming ever more entwined in social networks, virtual worlds and gaming environments.  While commerce and industry are increasingly dependent on new and improved information technology. The Bachelor of Information Sciences Information Technology major will combine your love of problem-solving, teamwork and technology with the core skills needed to analyse, design, build and manage a range of IT systems, projects and resources.

The Graduate Diploma in Information Sciences (GradDipInfSc) is intended mainly for graduates in an unrelated area who are seeking to retrain or upskill in the information sciences.  Many of the students are studying via distance (online study) because they are working full time.

Massey is one of the few universities in New Zealand where your information sciences qualification covers all five disciplines of computer science, data science, information technology, information systems and software engineering.  Many graduates have found it really useful to complete the Graduate Diploma “with no endorsement”.  This means that you can select the courses you are most interested in from across the range of subjects.  You are strongly encouraged to select “no endorsement”.

You’ll learn a broad spectrum of skills from business management through to software development.  So you’ll emerge from your studies at Massey with a well-rounded understanding of the whole industry. You’ll gain the applied skills that you’ll need to become an excellent ICT professional.
