Massey University’s Postgraduate Diploma in Science and Technology gives you the opportunity to join the pathway to in-depth research at a master’s level. 

If you complete the qualification at a satisfactory level you may be able to proceed to the Master of Science. If so, credits you have gained through this qualification may be credited to the master’s qualification.

There are sociologists interested in virtually all aspects of the social world. It goes beyond surface appearances in an attempt to find out how things really work. Sociologists ask many questions. What divides or unites social groups? What causes the inequalities we see in society? How does power actually operate? Questions like these are crucial to understanding some of the biggest issues facing the world today.

Massey University’s Postgraduate Diploma in Science and Technology (Conservation Biology) gives you the opportunity to join the pathway to in-depth research at a master's level. The qualification consists of 90 credits of taught courses and 30 credits of research.

Zoology is the animal science of the natural world. It examines animals on a variety of scales, from biological knowledge at the molecular level to animals as components of systems. It also includes the study of animal behaviour.

Sociology is about understanding and describing our local society and its global setting. Sociologists are interested in almost all aspects of the social world. During your study of the Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) you will consider questions such as:

• How is society changing?

With a Massey BA (Sociology) you will ask challenging questions about how things really are in the social world. Culture, ethnicity, class, inequality, gender, mass media, politics, environment, social change and individual and group interactions are important areas that you will study. This is a broad subject that will teach to you think critically about the world and investigate social issues.

Politics is life, and like life, politics is a struggle. The study of politics equips you with the concepts, theories and facts necessary to make sense of that struggle. Politics is about us: how we make decisions in society and who gets what, when and how. Politics is also concerned with the conflict of ideas and values, not only at the level of the local community or the nation but also internationally. More specifically, it has to do with who governs and how and why decisions that affect all of us (such as how much students pay to study at a university) are made.
