Students enrolled in this major will develop skills in using contemporary creative arts within communication roles for the purpose of clear, engaging, persuasive and powerful storytellng.
Learn how creative expression can be used to challenge people’s assumptions, or encourage them to take civil action and prompt social change.
Graduates will be experimental thinkers who can strategically blend text, images, music, sound, film and performance to achieve their communication goals in a media-rich world.
The major includes papers focused on design thinking, intercultural communication, interactive and social media, the semiotics of sound and images to express ideas, human interest storytelling, and professional studio production (live editing, green screen, cameras and lighting).
Students will work on a variety of practical projects designed to expand their creative practice, such as audio-visual installations, or gaming and VR.

Environmental Planning at Waikato develops your knowledge of how human behaviour affects the environment. We'll inspire you to understand how social, economic and cultural aspects, and the physical environment contribute to problems and provide solutions.
During your Environmental Planning studies, we'll involve you in a variety of other academic pursuits that enable you to understand the interdisciplinary nature of environmental issues. You'll take papers in the social and natural sciences and make direct connections between human behaviour, politics and the natural environment.

Master of Engineering in Materials and Process Engineering
By studying Materials and Process Engineering at the University of Waikato, you will learn how to add value to raw materials used to manufacture a number of useful products, while minimising waste. These products can be as varied as dietary formulae, foods, ceramics that can withstand high temperatures, new metal alloys, pharmaceuticals, laminated boards, functional proteins, and composites.
Materials engineers make critical decisions in selecting and developing the best materials for a particular purpose. As a materials engineer you could work on a number of diverse projects, including understanding the properties and uses of wood and steel, designing and constructing new filters for sewage treatment, and providing new materials for the energy industry.
Process engineers make critical decisions in the processes and utilities required to manufacture a product. As a process engineer you could work on converting trees into paper and fibre board, iron sand into steel, effluent into drinkable water and producing solar panels for electricity generation.
An important part of the Materials and Process Engineering programme at the University of Waikato is supported work placements into relevant industries.
