Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Education and Human Resource Management

at University of Strathclyde United Kingdom

Overview

In this course, we offer you the chance to develop knowledge of the education systems of Scotland and beyond, looking at issues including policy, social justice, equity and inclusion.

Combining education with other subjects provides opportunities for those who wish to work in professions associated with education, but who don't wish necessarily to become teachers. Please note that this course doesn't allow you to qualify as a teacher, though joint honours Education graduates will be able to explore postgraduate routes into teaching careers (via the PGDE).

We also offer some of the best teaching in Human Resource Management (HRM) in both Scotland and the UK.

HRM is about the relationship between employers and employees and the ways in which people are managed in the workplace. This covers areas such as recruitment and selection, training and developing and managing conflict at work. These are an important part of the management process in all organisations.

As demand increases for faster production and turnaround times as well as transparent business models, manufacturing management graduates are sought-after to make a difference by developing and optimising companies’ processes and workflows.

Production no longer simply refers to a physical product, but instead it has just as much to do with services. Alongside the progression of worldwide online shopping and globalisation, as well as competition in price, these changes have impacted opportunities for companies to remain competitive, which means that a single product, for example a laptop or a car, consists of many individual components which have been manufactured all around the world. In turn, this has contributed to complicating companies’ production processes and supply chain.

Modern manufacturing engineers not only need to be experts in the latest classic manufacturing technologies – they need to know how to exploit the power of digital manufacturing to stay competitive in an increasingly global digital market. This course helps you to get a deeper insight into new developing business models for management, as well as the skills and understanding to meet the stringent demands of today's highly competitive industrial environment.

Study with us

  • Prepare for a career within the global manufacturing sector
  • Gain industrial experience to add to your CV through the Postgraduate Group Project
  • Manage a project with an industrial client to address a practical problem

Choosing Psychology as your second subject, you would be undertaking a 5-star course as rated by QS. Our main focus in psychology is the study of human behaviour. Studying with us, you'll look at conditions of behaviour – how we learn, remember, co-ordinate our actions and interact with others – and the reasons for differences between individuals, such as personality or intelligence. Due to the popularity of the course, performance-related criteria are in place to manage entry into Honours (Year 4); this means the numbers admitted to Years 2 and 3 of the course are limited and dependent on performance.

Pursuing this joint degree will give you a critical understanding of the media industry. You'll acquire technical and professional skills in journalism, communication, information design and management, and you'll use them in the dynamic media market of Glasgow and beyond. It'll also allow you to take a second subject, enhancing your expertise and university experience even further.
