With the world-wide search for offshore oil and gas moving into increasingly hostile areas of ocean and deep and ultra-deep water, floating systems are becoming more widely used. Floating systems must be designed and built to withstand harsh environments with innovative methods and techniques being adopted to develop robust as well as economically efficient and safe structures. In meeting these challenges, concern for the environment is of increasing importance.

Naval architects and marine engineers deal with the world’s largest moving structures and most powerful vehicles – from huge ships to sailing yachts, from fast ferries to offshore wind turbines and oil platforms.

Marine engineering is the engineering speciality of design, construction, installation and operation of machinery and propulsion systems for ships and marine structures.

This degree aims to develop engineers capable of dealing with engineering challenges on a wide range of marine vehicles, with additional skills and understanding in the impact and importance of marine engineering on their successful design, construction, repair, and maintenance.

In addition to core Naval Architecture subjects, you'll study a range of specialised marine engineering subjects, such as control theory and practice, electrical systems, design of marine engines (diesel, diesel-electric and gas turbine), propeller and shafting systems, system design and simulation, green technology and fuel cell technology.

The MSc Neuroscience & Mental Health has been designed, with feedback from industry, to fulfil a gap in the postgraduate market for a strong research-led neuroscience Masters degree.

The programme will allow students to build both a strong knowledge-base and a clear understanding of the practicalities involved in research, drug discovery and development of therapeutic interventions for disorders of the nervous system.

Students will have access to expertise and facilities for in vivo animal studies, such as models for different aspects of learning & memory. The course will include training in associated ethical & legal considerations.

In this course, you’ll study core chemistry classes blended with specialist courses on disease targets, design of selectively-acting prototype drugs, synthetic and mimetic strategies in producing drug prototypes, and the refinement of promising compounds.

In Psychology, you’ll study human behaviour. Psychological research is motivated by the desire to understand both general behaviour (how we learn, remember, co-ordinate our actions and interact with others) and the reasons for the differences between individuals, such as personality or intelligence.
