This 18-month MSc course has been developed to provide high-calibre mechanical engineering graduates with an in-depth technical understanding of advanced mechanical topics. You’ll gain the specialist and generic skills necessary to contribute effectively in developing company capabilities, with practical experience provided by the industrial placement.

Industrial Placement

• You'll complete an industrial placement in the period from June to August, after you have completed the taught part of your degree, but before your final project. The Department will support you in making applications for industry internships. Please note that it's your responsibility to secure a work placement.
• You'll be fully supported by the University while on a placement. You'll be allocated a University of Strathclyde supervisor who'll act as your point of contact during your placement.

Our BA degrees in Humanities & Social Sciences are initially broad-based. In Year 1, you'll study three subjects, including your chosen subject(s).

History

• Studying history – the story of humanity through the ages – develops your knowledge of the past and gives you a better understanding of the present.
• Throughout your studies, you'll receive excellent training in areas such as problem-solving, communication, research methods, and interpretation.
• Our classes cover some of the most important and interesting historical periods at home and abroad, including Scotland’s ‘Highland Problem’ in the 16th century, Slavery in World History and Cold War Europe, 1945-1991.

Choosing Psychology as your second subject, you would be undertaking a 5-star course as rated by QS. Our main focus in psychology is the study of human behaviour. Studying with us, you'll look at conditions of behaviour – how we learn, remember, co-ordinate our actions and interact with others – and the reasons for differences between individuals, such as personality or intelligence. Due to the popularity of the course, performance-related criteria are in place to manage entry into Honours (Year 4); this means the numbers admitted to Years 2 and 3 of the course are limited and dependent on performance.

This MSci is a five-year Masters degree with entry into either Year 1 with Highers or Year 2 with Advanced Highers or A Levels.Pharmacology is the study of how drugs and other chemicals affect the body in health and disease. This unique Masters in Applied Statistics in Health Sciences provides an opening to a career as an applied statistician, without having previously studied statistics. Although the programme is focused on health, the skill set provided will also equip you with the necessary training to work as an applied statistician in other areas such as insurance, finance and commerce.

The course is run in collaboration with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). Statisticians from APHA, as well as those who have extensive experience in working with the National Health Service in Scotland, will provide lectures based around real-life problems and data from the health sciences.

Although the programme is focused on health, the skill set provided will also equip you with the necessary training to work as an applied statistician in other areas such as insurance, finance and commerce.

You’ll develop mathematical and statistical expertise at the same time as completing a fully-accredited Accounting degree. This course could lead to training for membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland.

You will look at statistical techniques in data analysis and the use of mathematical models.
