Mechanical engineers are recognised for their knowledge and skills in conceiving, designing, implementing and operating devices, machines, engines and energy systems.

You'll learn how to design aircraft engines, control systems, landing gear and about the many complex parts which sustain flight.

Many of the aero-related topics, such as aerodynamics and lightweight structures, are of special interest and value to a wide variety of engineering activities outside the field of aeronautics.

Graduates from the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering - which is consistently rated in the top 10 such departments in the UK -  are part of a new breed of engineer who can take on challenges ranging from traditional industries to areas such as new materials, sustainable development and aerospace.

This one-year MRes in Climate Change Adaptation aims to provide advanced study in key issues related to climate change and global warming, and how infrastructure will need to adapt.

The course links with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in particular the different indicators associated with SDG13 on Climate Action. The course is largely research and project-based but there is also a taught element to it.

This course is designed to cater mainly for graduates with an engineering education, and employees of public and private sector companies who wish to upgrade their skills to be able to tackle the complex issues relating to the current climate crisis, circular economy goals, and the design of engineering options for mitigating environmental impacts and promoting sustainable development.

The course is ideal for you if:

• An MRes takes one year full-time or two years part-time to complete. Part-time study is only available to UK students.

Our BA degrees in Humanities & Social Sciences are initially broad-based. In Year 1, you'll study three subjects, including your chosen subject(s).

Immunology helps us understand how the immune system is tricked into attacking its own tissue, leading to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes or allergy. It's significantly helped modern medicine in areas such as blood transfusion, vaccination, organ transplantation along with the treatment of allergy, and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer.

It's also made vital contributions to cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology and pharmacology, and is starting to make major inroads into the food industry, agriculture and veterinary science. 

Pharmacology is the study of how drugs and other chemicals affect the body in health and disease. It also explores the development of new and improved medicines and the treatment of disease.
