The MSc Applied Educational & Social Research is a full-time one-year or two-year part-time degree, ideal for those looking to enhance their academic and professional understanding of research. The course looks at the issues facing educational and social researchers and offers a range of intellectual and practical resources to structure and explore these issues. Students are encouraged to identify their own area of interest for research and to explore this throughout the course, before completing their own dissertation research in this chosen area.

The course is aimed at two principal audiences:

• Those wishing to develop their professional understanding of applied research
• Those seeking to develop their research skills prior to undertaking PhD study

The full-time version of the course is available both as face-to-face attendance and as a form of blended learning involving face-to-face meetings with additional web-based content delivered by a dedicated online environment. This allows you to study at times that suit you. The classes are flexible, so you can make choices based on your own personal interests. The part-time version of the course is entirely distance learning.

The course offers an ESRC recognised route (+1) into a PhD in Education. Students following this route undertake 60 credits taught centrally with other ESRC students from across the Faculty.  

International students completing this degree will further benefit from gaining an insight into the UK educational system.

Ninety percent of world trade is carried by sea. You'll gain an understanding of the subjects essential for effective and efficient management of ships and fleets. This course allows you to develop multidisciplinary interests and skills by working with other areas of naval architecture, ocean and marine engineering.

As a graduate you could expect to work in the industry as a technical ship superintendent or manager.

The most successful professionals in today’s media are not only highly skilled in reporting, writing, editing and pitching their material, but they're also excellent communicators online and offline, and problem-solvers. Social Policy examines the ways in which societies distribute resources and develop services to meet individual and social needs. Key social policy issues examined include poverty; economic, race, age and gender inequality; social justice health; education; criminal justice and housing.

It utilises a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to improve our understanding of how societies organise their resources to meet individual and social needs and how they measure progress in these areas. 

This programme gives you the opportunity to learn more about the social and economic challenges facing Scottish society and place these in a broader international perspective. It draws on disciplines such as history, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychology, social anthropology and politics.

Chemical engineers play a vital role in finding solutions to 21st century challenges, such as providing people with clean water, medicines, food and fuel.Our graduates design and operate industrial processes that turn raw materials into valuable products, minimising their environmental impact.

Other projects include a team-based Frontiers of chemical engineering project in Year 1 and various research projects throughout other classes.

This MSci is a five-year Masters degree with entry into either Year 1 with Highers or Year 2 with Advanced Highers or A Levels.Pharmacology is the study of how drugs and other chemicals affect the body in health and disease. This area explores the development of new and improved medicines and the treatment of disease.This degree is for those who want to specialise in a single biomedical sciences option at Masters level. The course is particularly relevant if you want to pursue an academic or research-related career.

The management of large complex systems engineering projects demands a unique set of skills that are not taught within conventional engineering or business management programmes.

The aim of our MSc in Systems Engineering Management programme is to develop systems engineering management capability by creating graduates who understand the complexities of the management situations they face, and who can apply systems thinking approaches and techniques to address the challenge of managing the complexity between the technical system being developed and the people and organisations that are responsible.

You'll focus on engineered systems, however, many of the skills and techniques you'll acquire are equally applicable to other complex systems such as manufacturing and organisations.

This course demands a high level of design ability and self-motivation.
