Electrical energy is vital in today’s society. It powers manufacturing and transport, provides heat and light and is part of all modern life.
One of the biggest challenges facing society is the need for reliable energy supplies with minimum impact on the environment. This degree responds to that need. It produces engineers with the technical expertise and skills to tackle this challenge and all complex issues surrounding the applications of electrical power.

The search for, and integration of, renewable and carbon-neutral energy sources into the existing power network requires innovative engineering solutions involving fuel cells, solar, wind, wave and tidal technologies. Examples of such innovation include our energy project in The Gambia and opportunities exist for you to be part of the annual expedition there to install solar technologies into rural communities.

Immunology helps us understand how the immune system is tricked into attacking its own tissue, leading to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes or allergy. It's significantly helped modern medicine in areas such as blood transfusion, vaccination, organ transplantation along with the treatment of allergy, and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer.

It's also made vital contributions to cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology and pharmacology, and is starting to make major inroads into the food industry, agriculture and veterinary science. 

Pharmacology is the study of how drugs and other chemicals affect the body in health and disease. It also explores the development of new and improved medicines and the treatment of disease.

Group project
You’ll work with a group of students from different pathways of the Sustainable Engineering programme. You’ll produce sustainable solutions to real-life industry problems. This project will include site visits, field trips and progress reports to industry partners.

Individual project
An individual research project is offered where you'll be working with our highly talented team of leading researchers on chemical engineering issues of the future.
MSc students will study a selected topic in depth and submit a thesis.Successful completion of eight modules, the group project and an individual project leads to the award of an MSc.

This two-year course gives you the opportunity to explore architecture in a broad-based manner through theoretical and practical work. It demands a high level of design ability and self-motivation while giving you the chance to explore and develop projects related to your own interests.

You’ll appraise current theoretical approaches to architecture and urban design then assess and show their relevance in existing and proposed contexts. You’ll also develop and demonstrate formal and technical architectural ability.

If you obtain all diploma credits at first sitting you'll have the opportunity to proceed to Masters, thus converting your Diploma into a MArch. This requires an extra three months of study.

Tall buildings such as the Shard in London or the new Queensferry Bridge across the Firth of Forth are exciting examples of civil engineering.

Solving problems of air, land and water pollution and protecting society against natural disasters are also important aspects of civil engineering.

The MSc Entrepreneurial Innovation & Technology is a highly practical programme that will help budding entrepreneurs conceive and crystallise their ideas about their venture start-up or new business project. 

You'll learn how to combine theoretical knowledge with a special focus on developing the applied skills required to engage successfully in entrepreneurial activity. 

The focus of this programme is the Virtual Incubator Project, during which you will work in groups to take your business idea to the next level. You will develop an innovative business opportunity and pitch to a panel of investors from the UK ecosystem.

The MSc Neuroscience & Mental Health has been designed, with feedback from industry, to fulfil a gap in the postgraduate market for a strong research-led neuroscience Masters degree.

The programme will allow students to build both a strong knowledge-base and a clear understanding of the practicalities involved in research, drug discovery and development of therapeutic interventions for disorders of the nervous system.
