This innovative degree is a joint venture between the University of Strathclyde and three further education colleges - West College Scotland, Glasgow Clyde College and New College Lanarkshire.

The degree aims to prepare you for working in settings which combine health education and social work/social care. You’ll enter college at a Diploma of Higher Education level, having first studied a relevant HNC. You’ll then go on to Year 3 at Strathclyde to study for the BA.

The Education & Social Services (BA) responds to the Scottish Government’s aspiration for different services to communicate more effectively and to work in a more integrated way to meet the service-user needs of children, young people and adults. A major aim of the degree is to develop the leadership qualities and skills required for this challenge.

Immunology helps us understand how the immune system is tricked into attacking its own tissue, leading to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes or allergy. It's significantly helped modern medicine in areas such as blood transfusion, vaccination, organ transplantation along with the treatment of allergy, and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer.

It's also made vital contributions to cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology and pharmacology, and is starting to make major inroads into the food industry, agriculture and veterinary science. 

Pharmacology is the study of how drugs and other chemicals affect the body in health and disease. It also explores the development of new and improved medicines and the treatment of disease.

The Masters course in Education Studies introduces the most important questions and problems by which the discipline of education studies is characterised, along with the methodologies and methods used to answer those questions. In addition to the core modules designed to give you a solid foundation for understanding educational processes, you'll have the flexibility to choose a pair of modules from a range of specialist classes to meet your personal and professional needs. This includes a pair of work-based learning modules where you can explore how learning works, components of effective teaching and encourage professional learning through practitioner inquiry.

Education Studies is a discipline in its own right. While it draws on insights from different disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, philosophy, political studies and international relations, economics and business studies, it entertains a very specific perspective on the world.

In education studies, we're mainly interested in the ways, personal growth and (trans)formation can be individually and socially initiated, guided, and supported. Those educational processes are, of course, not restricted to contexts of formal education, eg schooling, but can be perceived everywhere in modern cultures.

There are a number of ways you can study law at Strathclyde, one such way being the BA degree in combination with another subject. Please that studying Law within the BA degree will not qualify you for entry to the legal profession. For professional qualifications in Law, students follow the LLB programme.

The MSc Applied Educational & Social Research is a full-time one-year or two-year part-time degree, ideal for those looking to enhance their academic and professional understanding of research. The course looks at the issues facing educational and social researchers and offers a range of intellectual and practical resources to structure and explore these issues. Students are encouraged to identify their own area of interest for research and to explore this throughout the course, before completing their own dissertation research in this chosen area.

The course is aimed at two principal audiences:

• Those wishing to develop their professional understanding of applied research
• Those seeking to develop their research skills prior to undertaking PhD study

The full-time version of the course is available both as face-to-face attendance and as a form of blended learning involving face-to-face meetings with additional web-based content delivered by a dedicated online environment. This allows you to study at times that suit you. The classes are flexible, so you can make choices based on your own personal interests. The part-time version of the course is entirely distance learning.

The course offers an ESRC recognised route (+1) into a PhD in Education. Students following this route undertake 60 credits taught centrally with other ESRC students from across the Faculty.  

International students completing this degree will further benefit from gaining an insight into the UK educational system.
