Social policy is a theoretical and applied subject which draws on many different disciplines - such as history, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychology and politics - to improve our understanding of how different societies organise their resources to meet individual and social needs and how they measure progress in these areas.

Our BA degrees in Humanities & Social Sciences are initially broad-based. In Year 1, you'll study three subjects, including your chosen subject(s).

• It utilises a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to improve our understanding of how societies organise their resources to meet individual and social needs and how they measure progress in these areas.
• This programme gives you the opportunity to learn more about the social and economic challenges facing Scottish society and place these in a broader international perspective. It draws on disciplines such as history, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychology, social anthropology and politics.

This course will help you to develop an understanding of how and why human resource policies and practices differ across the world. You'll examine how international companies address these challenges. 

It allows you to consider these issues critically and encourages you to think more practically about the skills required to manage in an international context. 

The programme will provide you with a good understanding of theoretical debates and policy issues affecting human resource management in the global context. 

You'll develop an awareness of the range of possible national and regional models for the management of human resources within the globalised economy. 

You'll learn about the impact of local cultural and institutional influences on the practices of global organisations. 

By the end of the programme, you'll have a good working knowledge of the skills required to manage in an international context, as well as an understanding of how multinational organisations can best mobilise a culturally diverse workforce.

You'll have the opportunity to regularly engage with senior HR professionals through departmental and external networking opportunities. Throughout the course of your study there will be a number of guest lectures and tailored seminars delivered by leading HR and business managers, focusing on the practical challenges of managing people in multi-national enterprises and international organisations. Additionally, there will be opportunities to attend high profile conferences for HR professionals.

The combination of mechanical, electrical, electronic, computing, measurement and control elements are now an important part of most modern engineering systems and are essential to meet new challenges in engineering innovation.
Examples include energy generation, hybrid petrol/electric vehicles, aircraft design, satellite technology, robotic systems and technology for a sustainable environment.

This course covers key areas of both electrical and mechanical engineering reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of modern engineering. There's a demand for graduates with expertise within and across the boundaries of both disciplines.

The degree has dual accreditation by the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers meaning that you will be able to capitalise on career opportunities in both or either subject.

Our approach to the English & Creative writing course is innovative, modern and friendly, giving you a comprehensive understanding of English literature as a core basis for your creative work.

The emphasis is on helping you develop a range of skills to grow your future career, including textual analysis and interpretation. With us, you can study everything from poetry, the novel and drama (stage, screen, and radio) as you would expect on an English and Creative Writing degree, but in addition, at Strathclyde, we offer the opportunity to use creative writing skills as part of your approach to literary criticism.

Education is essential if you wish to study initial teacher education courses. We offer you the chance to develop knowledge of the education systems of Scotland and beyond, looking at issues including policy, social justice, equity and inclusion.

Combining education with other subjects provides opportunities for those who wish to work in professions associated with education, but who don't wish necessarily to become teachers. Please note that this course doesn't allow you to qualify as a teacher, though joint honours Education graduates will be able to explore postgraduate routes into teaching careers (via the PGDE).
