Our BA degrees in Humanities & Social Sciences are broad-based to start with. In Year 1 you'll study three subjects, including your chosen subject(s).

The MSc Entrepreneurial Innovation & Technology is a highly practical programme that will help budding entrepreneurs conceive and crystallise their ideas about their venture start-up or new business project. 

You'll learn how to combine theoretical knowledge with a special focus on developing the applied skills required to engage successfully in entrepreneurial activity. 

The focus of this programme is the Virtual Incubator Project, during which you will work in groups to take your business idea to the next level. You will develop an innovative business opportunity and pitch to a panel of investors from the UK ecosystem. 

By the end of the programme, you'll possess both the mindset and skills to 'think and act entrepreneurially'. You'll have the opportunity to engage with a dynamic innovation ecosystem through business competitions, guest lectures, knowledge exchange projects and field visits.

Our MSc Advanced Computer Science with Big Data gives you the skill set needed in a range of industries. You'll gain an understanding of the new challenges posed by the big data revolution, particularly in relation to its modelling, storage and access.

Big data is of growing importance in businesses and society in general. A skills shortage in this area means companies are willing to pay high salaries for the right skill set.

As a naval architecture student, you’ll learn to predict the stability and safety of ships, as well as their strength, speed, powering and propulsion requirements. You’ll discover how to calculate the motions of ships and other floating structures in rough seas, and how to estimate their reliability and safety in extreme conditions.

Ocean engineering deals with the technical aspects of fixed and floating marine structures and systems related to harnessing ocean resources. These include offshore oil and gas and the rapidly expanding area of ocean renewable energy, as well as other ocean resource activities such as subsea mining and aquaculture.

The degree aims to develop graduates capable of dealing with engineering challenges on a wide range of marine vehicles from tankers, bulk carriers, container ships and giant cruise liners to tidal current turbines and oil/gas platforms.

In addition to core naval architecture subjects, you'll study a range of specialised ocean engineering subjects and subjects related to the design of novel ship and offshore structures such as risk management and reliability analysis, station-keeping and control and subsea engineering.

For BEng students with the appropriate level of academic performance the opportunity to transfer on MEng programme is available.

Please note that this course doesn't allow you to qualify as a teacher, though joint honours Education graduates will be able to explore postgraduate routes into teaching careers (via the Professional Graduate Diploma in Education).
