The MPhys teaches physics in greater depth than the BSc Honours degree. It’s for those of you who want to pursue a professional career in physics, with classes designed to meet the needs of the professional physicist.

You’ll focus your studies on a specific area, such as theoretical and computational physics, plasma physics or laser physics. You’ll also undertake a project, supervised by a member of staff in their research labs.

There is a strong emphasis on laboratory work, which will help you develop a sound understanding of experimental physics and instrumentation.

You’ll complete your laboratory work training with a research project carried out in an up-to-date research lab, attached to one of the department’s research groups. This allows you to benefit from our lively and diverse research environment.

Our approach to the English & Creative writing course is innovative, modern and friendly, giving you a comprehensive understanding of English literature as a core basis for your creative work.

The emphasis is on helping you develop a range of skills to grow your future career, including textual analysis and interpretation. The MSc in Actuarial Science at Strathclyde has been developed to give students wishing to move into the actuarial profession a strong foundation in the statistical concepts, models and techniques used in actuarial calculations, their computer implementations, and the financial and economic contexts of these calculations.

The program is an innovative cross-faculty alliance between the Strathclyde Business School and the Faculty of Science. 

The course is designed so that students with a strong aptitude for mathematics and statistics, but who have not studied these topics in detail in their undergraduate degree, can gain the necessary skills to move into the financial industry. It's intended as a conversion course, teaching material in statistics, economics and finance, and does not currently include specialist actuarial mathematics content (which will be studied in the actuarial professional examinations). It does produce graduates well equipped to apply for trainee actuary positions. Students reaching a sufficiently high level in core classes will be eligible for exemption from two of the professional examinations of the IFoA, namely CS1 and CB2.

The MSc Data Analytics is designed to create rounded data analytics problem-solvers.

The course focuses on the uses of data analytics techniques within business contexts, making informed decisions about appropriate technology to extract knowledge from data and understanding the theoretical principles by which such technology operates.

The Masters course in Education Studies introduces the most important questions and problems by which the discipline of education studies is characterised, along with the methodologies and methods used to answer those questions.
