A biomedical scientist is a scientist trained in biology, particularly in the context of medicine. These scientists work to gain knowledge on the main principles of how the human body works. Our course offers a more general degree than the specialist joint Honours biosciences degree programmes. You’ll follow the same curriculum up to Year 3, but instead of specialising in only two biomedical science options, you’ll take classes selected from all four areas, developing a broad understanding of all the biomedical sciences.

The Advanced Product Development stream is designed for those who wish to enhance their technical knowledge and practical design skills through the application of state-of-the-art manufacture to practical design settings through the specialisation in advanced materials and production technology, product design techniques and engineering risk management.

It's a discipline that draws on knowledge of product development, technical design, manufacturing techniques and rapid prototyping to bring new innovations to market. It also focuses on improving existing products and the processes used for making them.

The MSc Prosthetics & Orthotics is one of the few programmes globally that offers a specific degree in prosthetics and orthotics. The National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics (NCPO), within the Department of Biomedical Engineering, has an international reputation for quality education within this field. Staff of the NCPO is involved in research and clinical practice both nationally and internationally.

The course aims to produce postgraduates with a first degree to be in Prosthetics & Orthotics, who are capable of developing careers in allied health professions and biomedical engineering (research, industrial and NHS).

The MSW in Social Work is a two-year, full-time postgraduate degree course.

The Masters in Social Work course is based on the Standards in Social Work Education (SiSWE) and is validated by social work's professional body in Scotland, the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
