There are a number of ways you can study law at Strathclyde, one such way being the BA degree in combination with another subject.

Law is concerned with the study of the obligations, duties and rights which every member of society has in relation to one another and to the state.

The study of law is regarded not as purely vocational, but part of a broader education. Please note, however, that studying law within the BA degree will not qualify you for entry to the legal profession. For professional qualifications in Law students follow the LLB programme.

Social Policy examines the ways in which societies distribute resources and develop services to meet individual and social needs. Key social policy issues examined include poverty; economic, race, age and gender inequality; social justice health; education; criminal justice and housing.

It utilises a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to improve our understanding of how societies organise their resources to meet individual and social needs and how they measure progress in these areas. 

This programme gives you the opportunity to learn more about the social and economic challenges facing Scottish society and place these in a broader international perspective. It draws on disciplines such as history, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychology, social anthropology and politics.

Naval architects and marine engineers deal with the world’s largest moving structures and most powerful vehicles – from huge ships to sailing yachts, from fast ferries to offshore wind turbines and oil platforms.

Marine engineering is the engineering speciality of design, construction, installation and operation of machinery and propulsion systems for ships and marine structures.

This degree aims to develop engineers capable of dealing with engineering challenges on a wide range of marine vehicles, with additional skills and understanding in the impact and importance of marine engineering on their successful design, construction, repair, and maintenance.

In addition to core Naval Architecture subjects, you'll study a range of specialised marine engineering subjects, such as control theory and practice, electrical systems, design of marine engines (diesel, diesel-electric and gas turbine), propeller and shafting systems, system design and simulation, green technology and fuel cell technology.

If you're looking to develop your knowledge of finance and management simultaneously before embarking on your first professional business role, then the MSc Finance & Management is the course for you. If you're a graduate with some business experience, this qualification will provide the opportunity for you to further progress your career in a finance and/or management related role.

Jointly developed by the Departments of Accounting & Finance and Strategy & Organisation, this course is designed to give you a competitive edge no matter where your future business career takes you.

The programme offers ambitious graduates a thorough grounding in both financial and management principles. This in-depth understanding of both subject areas will be applicable to roles in any organisation, where a good knowledge of finance and management is required.

Studying history – the story of humanity through the ages – develops your knowledge of the past and gives you a better understanding of the present.

Throughout your studies, you'll receive excellent training in areas such as problem-solving, communication, research methods and interpretation.

Our classes cover some of the most important and interesting historical periods at home and abroad, including Scotland’s ‘Highland Problem’ in the 16th century, Slavery in World History and Cold War Europe, 1945-1991.

We also offer some of the best teaching in Human Resource Management (HRM) in both Scotland and the UK

HRM is about the relationship between employers and employees and the ways in which people are managed in the workplace.  

This covers areas such as recruitment and selection, training and developing and managing conflict at work. These are an important part of the management process in all organisations.

This unique course, running since 2008 – the first of its kind in Europe – meets the needs of graduate students who want to contribute to environmental improvement and the circular economy, and learn how to identify and evaluate business opportunities. Students are accepted from all backgrounds (social sciences, arts, engineering, law, chemistry, maths, physics, geology, biology and business).

The course is suitable for anyone who'd like to refocus their career on environmental or sustainable entrepreneurship. You'll develop skills to enable you to launch new ventures, strategies, products and technologies that address society's environmental and natural resource problems. It's a collaboration between the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship.

Our BA Hons in Accounting allows you to study accounting in combination with a range of business subjects.

In the majority of combinations, accounting is fully accredited for entry to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. You may be offered possible exemptions to other professional bodies eg Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

An in-depth understanding of economics and law will complement your accounting studies and prove valuable to employers.

This MSc recognises the need for skilled graduates to address the world’s major issues in electrical power and energy systems. It offers an integrated programme that delivers advanced-level traditional power engineering subjects, complemented by a range of modules that are critical to the management of a modern energy system.

The balance of knowledge in fundamental power engineering, distributed energy resources, and technologies that enable greater system visibility will equip students in essential skills to lead the industry in the process of transformation to a sustainable energy future. Immunology helps us understand how the immune system is tricked into attacking its own tissue, leading to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes or allergy. It's significantly helped modern medicine in areas such as blood transfusion, vaccination, organ transplantation along with the treatment of allergy, and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer.

It's also made vital contributions to cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology and pharmacology, and is starting to make major inroads into the food industry, agriculture and veterinary science. 

Pharmacology is the study of how drugs and other chemicals affect the body in health and disease. It also explores the development of new and improved medicines and the treatment of disease.

Jointly delivered by the Departments of Economics and Accounting & Finance, you will study the interaction between economics and finance, which is now critical to understanding the world we live in. 

Training in these subjects will equip you for finding employment in the public or private sector as economists, analysts or consultants. 

There is a strong emphasis on developing and applying skills learned in classes to real-world situations. 

The practitioner seminar series within our Professional Development for Economists class provides you with opportunities to learn from senior figures in business, consultancy and government about the key economic issues of the day and their own journey to the top of their chosen career. Many of the speakers are our own graduates.
