The aim of the MSc Economics & Finance is to produce highly skilled professionals who can analyse, understand and explain the complex economic and financial issues that arise in a globalised world. 

Jointly delivered by the Departments of Economics and Accounting & Finance, you will study the interaction between economics and finance, which is now critical to understanding the world we live in. 

Training in these subjects will equip you for finding employment in the public or private sector as economists, analysts or consultants. 

There is a strong emphasis on developing and applying skills learned in classes to real-world situations. 

The practitioner seminar series within our Professional Development for Economists class provides you with opportunities to learn from senior figures in business, consultancy and government about the key economic issues of the day and their own journey to the top of their chosen career. Many of the speakers are our own graduates.

This joint degree is offered in partnership with the Department of Mathematics & Statistics.

You’ll develop mathematical and statistical expertise at the same time as increasing your skills in the largest business school in Scotland. There’s strong emphasis on statistical techniques in data analysis and on the use of mathematical models.

Employers in the financial sector look for graduates who have experience using mathematical models, as well as a financial background. This course provides a good basis for entering the actuarial profession.

Electrical energy is vital in today’s society. It powers manufacturing and transport, provides heat and light and is part of all modern life.
One of the biggest challenges facing society is the need for reliable energy supplies with minimum impact on the environment. This degree responds to that need. It produces engineers with the technical expertise and skills to tackle this challenge and all complex issues surrounding the applications of electrical power.

The search for, and integration of, renewable and carbon-neutral energy sources into the existing power network requires innovative engineering solutions involving fuel cells, solar, wind, wave and tidal technologies. Examples of such innovation include our energy project in The Gambia and opportunities exist for you to be part of the annual expedition there to install solar technologies into rural communities.

The MSc in Cancer Therapies is unique in the UK. It's a multifaceted course and the only one which combines a focus on cancer biology, drug discovery, formulation and delivery with radiation biology. You'll also gain an understanding of the practical, ethical and economic implications of personalised cancer therapy. You'll be taught in the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences, recognised as one of the leading departments of its kind in the UK. It's about understanding product requirements and functionality, questioning existing ways of doing things and seeing opportunities to change things for the better.

Product design engineering blends a more technical engineering focus (such as mechanics, electronics, maths, engineering calculations of a products' design) with design principles, user experience, and technology to create new functional products or develop existing ones that can then be sold in competitive markets.

This is integrated with manufacturing processes, CAD, rapid prototyping and digital prototyping technologies, software and practical skills to turn the design into reality which is fundamental to global market success and requires not only customer appeal, aesthetics and brand awareness but also consistent and correct functionality, superior quality and fitness for purposes all at a competitive price.

This course will equip you with a grounding in the analysis of international politics, in terms of the issues, actors and processes that shape the world today and also the theoretical frameworks and methodological techniques by which we make sense of them.

What role do powerful states, international organisations and social movements play in international and regional politics? How should we respond to global crises and conflicts? How does power operate in, across and between states? In what ways do international political and economic processes shape the everyday lives of people across the globe? And how can we explain and evaluate such processes?

This MSc in International Relations will help you answer these questions. It will equip you with a systematic grounding in the analysis of international politics, in terms both of the issues, actors and processes that shape the world today and the theoretical frameworks and methodological techniques by which we make sense of them.

The course is distinctive in combining American and British, positivist and critical, approaches to this field of study, as well as in its range of specialist classes on topics as diverse as international law, the EU, security and gender.
