The MSc in Health History explores the last two-and-a-half centuries to seek the origins and impacts of our modern health experiences and expectations, together with the reasons they've changed so rapidly. It examines a variety of issues such as the:

There are a number of ways you can study Law at Strathclyde, one such way being the BA degree in combination with another subject. History

• Studying history – the story of humanity through the ages – develops your knowledge of the past and gives you a better understanding of the present.

• Our classes cover some of the most important and interesting historical periods at home and abroad, including Scotland’s ‘Highland Problem’ in the 16th century, Slavery in World History and Cold War Europe, 1945-1991.

Journalism, Media & Communication

• Today’s media industry expands beyond traditional print and broadcast journalism. It includes professional bloggers and vloggers, freelance writers and editors, podcasters, people working in entertainment TV, radio, or film, creators of video games and interactive apps, promoters of ideas and products, and many others.
• The most successful professionals in today’s media are not only highly skilled in reporting, writing, editing and pitching their material, but they are also excellent communicators online and offline, and problem-solvers. They are innovative and entrepreneurial, bold and curious, open-minded and collaborative. • Pursuing the BA in Journalism, Media and Communication will engage you in useful learning in a broad professional context, which includes a critical understanding of the media industry, while acquiring technical and professional skills in journalism, communication, information design and management, and using them in the dynamic media market of Glasgow and beyond. It will also allow you to take a second subject, which will enhance your expertise and university experience even further.

Marine vehicles have developed dramatically in recent years. Lighter, faster, stronger, greener and safer vehicles are being designed and built using advanced materials and technology combined with creative design engineering.

This course creates designers with all the core skills of ship design, construction, operation and maintenance. They also have a particular specialisation in the creative design and engineering of high performance leisure and commercial vehicles, including sailing and power yachts, fast ferries, hydrofoils, hovercraft, fishing boats and the concept designs of the future.

All our courses offer you the chance to take classes in specialist subjects such as high performance marine vehicles, marine engineering or ocean engineering.

This three or four-year* joint honours programme offers a route for students to combine psychology and counselling studies. The course will prepare you for further postgraduate study in counselling, counselling psychology or psychology, or for employment in other professional roles (eg support work) which would benefit from counselling skills training and an understanding of counselling theory.

Person-centred-experiential counselling and psychotherapy is internationally recognised and one of the leading therapeutic approaches to mental health and well-being. The combination with psychology will enable students to approach a range of clients across a broad spectrum of psychological distress. It'll equip you with the skills to critically assess an evidence base and develop appropriate theoretical questions and methodology to further your professional development and knowledge.

Our current courses meet the requirements for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS), and a COSCA-accredited Certificate in Counselling Skills is embedded within this course. However, it will not in itself represent a professional qualification in psychology, counselling or counselling psychology.

This program is designed for graduate engineers in naval architecture, offshore engineering, mechanical engineering and other related disciplines who wish to acquire advanced knowledge in a broad range of subjects of ship and offshore technologies.

This two-year course is offered jointly with Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), one of Germany's newest and most successful universities. Year 1 is completed at Strathclyde and Year 2 in Hamburg. The award is made in the name of both universities.

Before starting Year 2 in Hamburg, you’ll have the opportunity to complete an intensive German language course. This is offered as a four-week summer school in August or as a three-week course in October.

Civil engineering develops and improves facilities and services that society needs – from the supply of clean water and energy to the design and construction of roads, railways and stations.

Tall buildings such as the Shard in London or the new Queensferry Bridge across the Firth of Forth are exciting examples of civil engineering.

Our graduates develop and renew our towns and cities, and improve links with more remote communities.

Solving problems of air, land and water pollution and protecting society against natural disasters are also important aspects of civil engineering.

In recent years, our students have participated in the Constructionarium, attended Civil Engineering 4 Real and have taken part in our mentoring scheme involving graduate engineers with support companies such as BAM Nuttall, Sir Robert McAlpine, Tony Gee, Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors and Mott MacDonald.
