Our early years education course prepares you to become an exceptional educational professional working with the youngest learners. This course is guided by current policy and legislation including the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (2012), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989).

You will be introduced to historical and contemporary constructions of childhood, investigate theories of child development and develop an underpinning knowledge of play-based approaches. You will examine different theoretical and practice-based perspectives, and you will begin to make links between different concepts. For example, learning through play, and the relationship between attachment behaviours and brain development.

You will consider the different domains of learning and development, including personal, social and emotional development, communication and language, physical development and literacy skills. You will have the opportunity to think about the characteristics of effective learning, and the ways in which they support children to flourish and become lifelong learners.

In line with today’s creative industries, our new BMus (Hons) Composition course offers a unique twofold pathway with specialisms in either Film Composition or Theatre Composition, with the facility to undertake optional modules from both the Film and Theatre strands to create a more generic course of study.

These pathways represent the most significant routes contemporary composers take in their professional life, and aim to directly bridge your university studies with both the creative industries and your future career.

The Film and Theatre pathways are here intended in a holistic way, enabling you to engage with different genres: the Theatre pathway covers composition for musical theatre, opera and experimental music-theatre; the Film pathway encompasses composition for film, television and video games.

Our knowledge and understanding of food and nutrition is constantly evolving, making it one of the most diverse and interesting areas to work in today.

On this contemporary course you will cover a variety of key topics, including nutrition through the lifecycle, consumer behaviour, microbiology, sensory science and sustainable food supply-chain management. This exciting course focuses upon key elements involved in the Criminal Justice System – Criminology, Policing and Forensic Investigation. The interdisciplinary field of criminology explores topics such as the study of offenders, victims and the motivations for crime.

As a member of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy programme, we have integrated part of their respected, industry-focused curriculum into our course.

You can choose to study this course as a part-time intensive option to help you balance your studies with other commitments. You will have classes on Saturdays.
