Overview
Do you want to play a big role in helping those affected by with addiction to change their lives? This course has a strong focus on the Psychology of addiction and could help you turn your interest in this area into a challenging and rewarding career where you can really make a difference.
This particular course of study is based on one of the longest established psychology courses in the UK, which has been accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) since 1986. Furthermore, this substance abuse degree is the only BSc Psychology course in the UK accredited by both the BPS and the Addiction Professionals Registration Body and Network.
Undertaking this course may open the door to postgraduate study or training to be a specialist addiction counsellor. As the course is accredited by the BPS, there may be the option of training to be a Counselling Psychologist that specialises in supporting those affected with addiction problems.
The expertise of our teaching staff and the support they are able to give to students are major benefits of the course. You will study with tutors who have extensive backgrounds in the field, including research into alcoholism, binge drinking and other forms of addiction.
Our psychology research facilities include state-of-the-art brain imaging electroencephalogram (EEG), eye tracking equipment and a range of experiment and research software. We provide access and a high standard of support for use of these facilities.
